Which brings me onto my frustration - why I pay the same VED as someone who does triple my annual mileage? Why not scrap VED and put an extra penny on fuel duty?
Because then drivers of slow or economical cars would get to pay less, whilst causing just as much congestion.

The amount of fuel duty and VAT I pay every month is about the same as a year's VED, so I never quite understood why people moan so much about road tax.
But people of most slow/economical cars already pay less or indeed pay no road tax in some cases so there would be no difference 'in theory' adding it to fuel cost.

I however, would end up paying a small fortune on my main car but then minimal on my weekend toy so should balance out and be fair.

Dave

Edited to add...going to be really strange not having a tax disc in the corner of my windscreen! Will seem so bare!

I wish they'd do away with the whole system, and put a little bit more on the price of petrol. That way you pay for what you use and everyone pays.

Does the government realise that it's going to do nosey old fecking busy bodies out of a job?

What will these old feckers do when they can't walk around checking tax discs and reporting people if your tax has lapsed by one day?
