Mark, those are some of the funniest posts I've seen you do in ages.

As for the Boxster boys, this bit cracked me up...

The reason its not standard is that the short shift may put off certain people that are less interested in how the car performs.
So they are only interested in the looks and the badge then cos it certainly isn't the load carrying capacity or child seats now is it?

This confirms a lot

Firstly.......You arse licker
Secondly..glad you enjoyed the test drive. What wheels was the one you tested on 18s or 19s? Did it have Pasm? You can tell by the three buttons on the bottom of the centre dash, just under the heater controls. Theres another button on its own thats for the psm.
I had an initial test drive and then asked to have it again for a day, the insurance company were fine.
The one thing I did not do was take a passive car for a test drive and then a pasm equipped one for a test drive and i think i should of. I dont think it would of altered my opinion as pasm is just brilliant. Just a flick of the switch transforms the car from comfortable tourer to firm sports car. But I would like to hear how there compare back to back.

I drove the standard BoxS without PASM but with 19" wheels. I thought the ride might suffer as a consequence but it didn't. I would like to drive one with PASM but that is something I will have to wait to find first. Guildford Porsche don't have this on a demo nor the short shift.

What do you reckon eh?
The 987s on passive suspension is supposed to be better on 18s. It apparently makes little difference with pasm although i did not know this at the time and got mine just for the looks. Shallow but true. Same as centres. Mind you when I had the s I spent a small fortune on my MY00 on centre console cover leather gear stick gator mats counter sunk knob alpine and clear repeaters and I bet alot of you My00ers have done aswell so dont get too into slagging the extras thing. Its only that Honda dont offer them and the car was lacking.
Cayenne wannabies? dont get it
Is this any ref to wheel arch gap?
Non pasm boxsters sit 10mm higher.

Dealers will always be dealers whether they work for Honda, Porsche or anyone else! I was told it sits 5mm lower. They are a bunch of cowboys the lot of them.

Mine is on standard box S 18" wheels with PASM...... you pays yer money etc. but the 19" is suposed to be harsher and less progressive breakaway at the limit. A guy at work parks next to me with his 19" NON PASM equiped car and the wheel arch gap is bigger but not a major problem, he is also happy with the ride.

I chose to stay with the standard fit 18" wheels for a few reasons: I am happy with the way they look, didn't want to spend more dosh for an extra inch (no cheap jokes please), the car was designed around 18"ers, 18" wheels come fitted with Michellin Pilot Sport tyres while 19" come with Continentals (correct me if I'm wrong Mole!) which (according to my geeky research) have inferior dry performance but the final factoid that made me stay with the default was that Walter Rhorl the chief Porsche test driver said that 18"s with PASM is what he'd choose.

Rahula push for the Test Drive Plus..... the cars they use nearly always have PASM.

Also I work in Sunbury Monday to Thursday (nr Heathrow) and would be happy to meet up one day if you want some more insider info..... drop me a PM if interested.

You read between the lines correctly..... I didn't need to spell it out as I knew somebody else would!

I have a Boxster S because of the way it drives...... couldn't give a toss about the badge...... in fact when the inevitable happens and a chav nicks the Porker badge off it I won't bother replacing it until its time to sell.

They have sorted out a date in September for me which is good. I am after a discount now so need to sort that too. Do you reckon I could order one through your company?

Would be great to meet up. What time do you finish on weekdays?

Cheers

There is a 987S with 19" at our local sports centre.

You can see the lovely alloy suspension through them (better looking than Honda's barbeque set castings!) but the style clashes horribly with the body styling and they look ridiculously large - A bit like the old XJ8, the oversize wheels make the car look like a 4x4. Or a Rover Streetwise.

(If I did order one, I think I'd go with WADS - geeky suspension & trad wheels).

Certainly thinking I should go for a test drive after Wads and Mole's write ups. Might pop in to Swindon OPC next week (got the week off).

Gotta get me an options list too - pure comedy gold

I'll be asking about the 'Official Porsche Colouring Set' too.....
