I'd suggest something like an m3, purely on the basis that quite a few of my friends have tried to move to porsche turbos from vx/s2000 basis and just not had the cash for it but realised they needed a stop-gap

m3s seem like a familiar stop gap.
E46 M3s now

I'm bound to say Boxster because that's what I ended up with but I wasn't a Porsche fan. If you haven't driven one at least give it a test drive! Quality and build is very high and the flat 6 whale quite addictive! After having the Elise practicalities were a consideration in the end and it's a car you can use everyday if you need to.

Don't forget the high road tax costs. My mate has a never 330 ci bmw with a 3 litre engine, mine is a 2000 model with a 3.4 litre engine. My tax next year 185 quid, his is 440 quid. Do I save 255 quid a year tax which means my car is now cheaper to run than his

Had a little blap with an m3 yesterday, had to really test my brakes at high speed thank god they work well

I would suggest it's not a massive factor for most people on here! Porsche do seem to continue tweaking output and emmisions though, my 2.7 is now 245bhp and 222 Co2 as compared with 240bhp and approx 240 Co2 for the S I think the bracket starts at 225?

Maybe, but I would rather pay 185 quid than 450 a year. That extra money save nearly pays for a minor service for me. Check your car out here:

I did say MOST people not all! I agree with you it pays in terms of RFL to have a slightly older car at the moment, somehow I think they will clamp down severely on everything soon even the classics.

This is mine (not quite so harsh).....

s2000 first year tax on new one is 750 quid , then it goes down to 415 quid a year . In fact as of 2009 any s2000 made after 15/3/02 is 415 quid a month tax.

This new regime will take a little while to take effect but it will do soon!

I'm with Nick and biased - go the Elise root. Looking at practilaties, the boot is the same size as the Exige but the aperture is larger and you can easily get a weekend's worth of luggage in it.

Seats are a hit and miss affair - I find them really comfortable and supportive and can do long distances in it if the mood takes me but Jo finds the seating position uncomfortable to drive in.
