40k gets you a 996 GT3, depreciation will be practically nil, running costs not too high if you don't track it or do high mileage. Although it's not a V8. Or as new as you'd like. But they are bulletproof.
Of the 3 people I vaguely knowwho have had 996 GT3s, all of them have broke in a rather large way. A complete gearbox failure and two engine write offs. And the reports from a 911 specialist was that the 996 GT3 engine is quite renowned for going pop.

Yeah, it maybe the same engine, but just like the 2009 S2000 engine, could have been dodgy, then they made some subtle changes and it was all fine again.
I just don't like the fact that I have heard nothing but issues with the 996 GT3....not that I can afford one anyway!
