They certainly aren't bulletproof. Certainly, in the context you are describing, they would appear reliable.

Of the 3 people I vaguely knowwho have had 996 GT3s, all of them have broke in a rather large way. A complete gearbox failure and two engine write offs. And the reports from a 911 specialist was that the 996 GT3 engine is quite renowned for going pop.

Bearing in mind, I have heard nothing about 997 GT3s, just 996s

Same engine. N1 endurance race block. A lot get over revved, and people don't like to admit it

Who's this specialist?

Mine's warrantied, so i'm ok unless I mishift it.

I'd expect way more GT3 engine failures than, say, an Aston V8.

Different usage

And you'd expect 400 ish bph from a 4.3 or 4.7 V8, to be less stressed than a high revving 3.6 6 cylinder...

I can't remember the specialist name. I think it is a certain one, but because I don't know, I won't say. I know that sounds crap sorry.

Yeah, it maybe the same engine, but just like the 2009 S2000 engine, could have been dodgy, then they made some subtle changes and it was all fine again.

I just don't like the fact that I have heard nothing but issues with the 996 GT3....not that I can afford one anyway!
