Time For A Change?
Steve thanks for that - very useful
I went to Allen Renault in Northampton yesterday as they had FOUR RS250's - 2 with cup packs and recaro's!
I love the chunky look (LSB hated it
)
I loved the recaro's (LSB hated it
)
Brakes are great, power delivery is typical Renno and all at the top end
Very refined cruising and easy to "turn on" when you want to get on it
18" wheels worked better than 19" IMHO
The two I was interested in showed a lot of signs of wear (scuffed plastics, worn recaros) even at ~10k miles
LSB just could not get on with it and I was let down by the darkness & durability of the interior
So now I'm following Pie & Chips suggestion ( again
) off to look at a couple of fully loaded Sirocco GT's TSI's tomorrow

as I said, inside warranty you might be fine
I still maintain they self-destruct after about three years and the absence of any old ones is proof positive of that
I appreciate that Renault may achieve some new standard one day but I am not convinced they've done it yet
and I'm not anti-Renault - I think the cars are great when on-song

Personally -
If you're sitting in Bham traffic, get something comfortable and auto. Jag X-type or something.
Sell the elise, keep the S2K for fun and then you'll have something you can still use in the week if you're DESPERATE to get the roof down.
Done.

Yes, losing the drop top was one thing that sent my M3 packing and caused me to buy my second S!
Shame the drop top M3's have that image, and that the Z4M is so expensive comparatively. You want the straight six, but not the east London bling/straight arm whilst accelerating and having the latest RnB hit blasting out with a lot more treble than bass.
Anyway, back on topic, try to keep an S close somehow for those roof down desires!

It has the "trick" suspension and a few other toys
DSG has moved on from my first experience very impressed
Gone for TSI 200PS so a bit tweakable
Stuck to 18" for comfort
Mmmm... the ROCR was my first choice for a new hot hatch too.
I was so very disappointed with it I left the dealer utterly deflated.
It may be screwed together well but it was just so over sanitised that it doesn't work as a hot hatch IMO.
Also the price for a fully optioned ROCR is insane.
The lack of LSD option on a powerful FWD cripples it.
I hope you like it Mikey, but my guess is it won't stay on the drive for long mate.

I do know what you mean
But I need a 30k mile/yr muncher that can turn its hand to sporty
Had it been the other way round the Roc would not have a look in
I prefer the Golf R to the Roc R it is more focused
But as you say the VWs are pricey at any spec!

Blimey! Wasn't expecting that outcome.
So it's not totally detached from the road experience then?
I'd be inclined to agree about the wheels; it's more & more usual for the "upgrade" to be aimed at idiots.
Hopefully, they've now got the DSG unreliability/algorithms sorted.
Congrats & keep us informed...
