Being from "ap norf", you do tend to notice a completely different set of road manners once you get past Watford (M1). It becomes a rat race, tailgating, undercutting.. no specific style car/vehicle. It gets faster, if there's no queues. I cant think of an occasion when we've been to visit Doris folks on the way down where we've witnessed some incredible "stunts". There are some crazy road manners in the South East, we've particularly noticed from the last 30-40 miles of the M1. Fines now coming for poor behaviour, just may be what we need!

During my extensive travel, the worst motorway driving IMO is always on the M6 just south of the Lakes.
Approach Lancaster with caution, it gets worse the further north you travel until the old folks bugger off near the borders.

I'm often in Kent and Essex, maybe every two weeks but the North is risky.
It's grim ooop there.
I'd argue to say on the whole, it's not. I've been driving 25 years, lived in Kent for 5 years and commuted from Kent to Basildon for a couple of those (in my S). Since theyve widened the M1 nearer to the M25, that stretch has calmed, it's before that part that's lethal.
I have a caravan in the lakes, and weekly go from m6 jcn26 up to jcn36. In almost 20 years of doing that stretch, it's the calmest part of the motorway. There's no need for 4 lanes to accommodate the London population... Northerners give way. It's our nice habit. The worst part up north is jcn17-19 m6. A popular hot spot for speeding with a high record of pile ups.
I hate driving in London, as do most people. Be interesting to know what plod says about how many uninsured drivers there are in the City. Kent is calm, its more relaxed than Luton - London. People are in a hurry, mostly leaning on an iPhone with no tax lol
My sister, who lives in Tunbridge Wells always says it's grim ap Norf. Yet she's from... Ap Norf. The joke's on the South now, it's become anything but England/English and it's horrendously expensive. I'd be a poorer man in the South with a mortgage never paid off, constant queues on the road with bad road manners. All imo of course. Proud to be Northern chap!!

Well the RR is going very well and I really do like it. Perfect for what I need right now and its ferried the parents back and fwd to London quite a few times.

I'm getting 30mpg combined, or 460 miles to a £110 fill up, which is actually better than the warrior. Not bad for a 2500kg monster.

My only real gripe is the complete lack of engine braking, which means the brakes get used a lot. I can imagine it will eat them due to the weight.

I need a small step to wash it though even in access mode its too big for my 5'11 to reach the middle of the roof.

Overall I bloody love it though. Total comfort,

I must say i'm both surprised and impressed you're getting on with it

I think with my M3 it depends on my mood. I find little things irk me about it, clutch noise at tickover, squeaks on full lock and the things that diff does, never had that with the S but maybe i expect too much. Ultimately i probably expect it to drive like an Exige and an RR at the same time

weight generally means more running cost, the brakes on these things take a huge amount of hammer, guy at work just spent £1600 getting his sorted at service. Tyres are scary too i guess?

i'm still pondering a soft car (Accord?) and a mad car (Exige S)

UF, hopefully bigger driveway / garage means more toys eventually

Nottm, I think where I've got to with cars at the moment is that I only need 1 (S doesn't count) and the fast stuff ive had I've rarely been able to enjoy with the roads the way they are. Maybe its just down here being tourist central, but even in the off season months theres slow drivers and rozzers hiding in bushes. That combined with 2 seasons of racing to get my speed fix, and I've actually lost desire to drive anything fast on the roads. Not to say I don't miss having something tasty, that will happen when I get back from Korea permenantly, but I just enjoy the comfort and quiet at the moment.

If I was going to add a road car right now it would be an M3, Vantage or new shape Boxter S. None of those are massive power, but enough to get one in trouble!

Reality is that the Doris really misses the Warrior, so I expect in a couple of years the RR will go , she will get another Warrior (you don't see many highly educated birds in one of those ) and I will go for something more interesting.

Hang onto the M3 though, every time I see one I miss mine! Got to be DCT though

Just about to, with a nice big double garage and big driveway to store lots of cars and trailer! Sadly the lack of any car funds means it will look a little empty

But back to the RR for an update.

I really do love it.

It's had 2 faults, both of which have caused no real issue. The first was a CEL on the way to London which wouldnt clear. When I got there I called RR assist and within 30 mins a guy in another RR had turned up, plugged in with some clever gizmo, reset and all was well. A blip from the fuel system, which may have been related to me towing 2 tonnes of car and trailer back from Thruxton at a steady 75 mph

The other is a new fault affecting a lof of cars, which was an electrical click which shutdown the entertainment system. It's related to 4G or something, and it's due for a software update at the enxt service (next week)

Other than that, it just seems to do everything I need atm. I don't need a fast raod car as im rarely home, but I do need osmething comfy which will tow.

It has also been good at ferrying our bikes around, and various car parts

And I can even sleep in it

Doris is getting to like it too.

You are overdue a sprog.

And then you'll be towing a caravan to Dorset

Don't like sprogs or caravans, Steve!
