Nah the cops were in a regular car, the guy I followed was a RR sport. Made good time and, from what you say, much better mpg than me even in foot off mode

Just to say, you must be feeling chuffed to buggery after today. A lot different from grumpydom a few weeks ago.

They are 95% brilliantly built. Its the 5% that leaves some RR owners irate with niggles. My old man worked for them for 22 years in a dealership, and not long retired. He sold to the Neville brothers (Gary & Phil, oh and their Dad Neville (!)), various famous Snooker players, Directors of football clubs etc etc. He aways told me never to buy a LR of any type, if I had the opportunity to splash cash on a vehicle like this. His customers were rich and not really ar*ed about gremlins and just paid whatever to fix it. The Service Team tended to make far more dough than any of the Sales dept. Asking Dad why, he claimed that it was down to build quality (switches, electrics, engine faults, i dont know what else!). I argued that with him (Dad)that being a dealer, he'd tend to only remember what's bad about the Brand (ie build quality). I used to sell Vauxhall cars in 2002-3. Christ now they WERE bloody crap! (Except VX220, I have to say. But that was a "cheat" Vauxhall, really a Lotus)
For that matter, even though theres a certain air of confidence driving a beautiful cosseting machine like this... you'll miss the Warrior for its 100% bomb-proofness. Just hope you dont spend too much time sitting in a sunken leather armchair in a dealers

It's got a full warranty and nothing has gone wrong yet

Unless anyone one here has owned one, I'm taking it all with a pinch of salt, but will of course divulge anything which goes wrong along the way!

I think that's a very cogent synopsis.

It's rare to get one car that suffers ALL of the common faults, but I have a client who had one that has, and even his specialist indy was surprised by it!

the warranty deals with the cost

it cannot compensate for the irritation of having to regularly arrange for the car to be repaired

here's hoping it won't come to that

one other issue is owner ocd - some people book the car in for a squeak or a rattle and are never happy

let's hope that doesn't apply...

Have you seen any symptoms of 4x4 arsehole syndrome yet?

Worst driven cars next to pleb carriers.

Yesterday I was behind some twunt in a horse carrier. He goes onto an island hogging 2 lanes without indicating anywhere. Prick behind me in a Cayenne overtakes then cuts it up to go left with no idea of where the donkey wagen was going.

An x5 tried to kill me on the bike and worst a RR ran a light to get in front of me after I told him he was a wanker. After all that he declined my offer to resolve the issue and drove off.

Hopefully you're immune

The biggest problem with RR(S) drivers is that they believe the hype that this thing is a sports car beater

It doesn't matter how big the tyres and how trick the suspension, the mass of the things will always mean that they are not

This is fine until the first roundabout or corner appears and that's why you see these things cutting corners and straightlining roundabouts (thereby cutting other people up on a regular basis)

Then they're back on the straight where all that matters is power and the whole cycle starts again (and the belief system is reinforced)

My house is approached via a country lane where passing is possible if both closing cars drive carefully and at a moderate speed

Recently some prick in a newly acquired RR (white, natch) took to barging people (in smaller cars) off the road by taking the centre line at speed

Example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNJ-A8a82-A

It has taken me a couple of weeks and four random encounters to educate them, which basically involved taking up station in the centre myself, when both cars just came into each other's vision

So basically I'm stationary in the middle of the road when said RR barrels up

At that point, having got him to modify his speed, it's my not unreasonable view that the person in the big off roader that should take to the mud to facilitate the passage of both vehicles

On the fifth occasion said RR approached at a moderate speed, I moved slightly left and we were both able to pass at a moderate speed. I even gave a friendly wave

On the sixth this was repeated, so I consider it job done

Just like house training a puppy really

FWIW my next door neighbour has a RR and drives it sensibly from what I've seen

So all Range Rovers break down regularly and are driven by c@#ts?

Interesting.

I'm just glad all S2000 owners aren't gay hairdressers.
