Can anyone compare the speed camera POI funcitonality as compared to a dedidcated unit, such as my Origin B2? What sort of warning do you get? Simply a flag that the speed camera is X metres away, or any further details, such as speed limit etc?
You can specify everything, different distances for different cameras (warnings proportional to speed), different alerts, on approach the icon assigned to the POI (usually the speed limit) flashes up in the top right hand corner and is also clearly visible on the map screen itself so you can see right where it is, works a charm.

I took a trip to S2000's 4 u today to see what they had, tomtom worked great. Got me up there without a problem, even used the Plus function to show if there were any traffic jams (which it did show roadworks and diverted me around), then on the way back the a303 was at a standstill. Click screen, avoid part of route, a303, new route, 10 mins slower but 0 traffic

Great stuff

What's new on Version 6?
The functionality that is on the new 500, 700 and 900 series it appears - TomTom Buddies, etc. The screen seems a bit clearer with it, and they've re-organised some of the menus. Not sure if its for the better. You can now have a password at the start-up screen to stop others using it if its nicked (not sure how secure it really is though).

Some way of transferring from Autoroute to TomTom would be a godsend. I looked into it last year and couldn't find an easy way of doing it. Plugging in 500 GPS coordinates is not my idea of "integration"
The only thing I've seen that sounded promising was the softwar e you can get for linking it up with Google Earth. Its a free download, so I tried it. Trouble is it realies on Google Earth's routing which is then converted to an itinerary. Unfortuanetely the Google Earth routing is crap, so I never used it in anger.

Have a look at my custom solution and why I think all the official tomtom mounts are a total POS here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...hl=tomtom&st=0
Just looked at the photos - very very neat install. Have you got more more photos and details of how you made it? I would love to try and give it a go myself, as I'm still using the sucker at the mo'.

Ta.

Once again, Garmin (the MANS brand of GPS) has done me a 1500 mile route deep into French carp territory, without a hitch

19,000 miles travelled with Garmin (the MANS brand gps).

There's a utility around called ITN.EXE which will convert an Autoroute itinerary to a TomTom one. I've tried it - it's very small, simple and works well (and free)

OK, thanks to Hyb for allowing me to trial the speed camera POI.

Unfortunately my friend with the tomTom has been a typicaslly bloke and not read the manual, so it was a bit of a learning experience, but we got the speed camera warning working.

Having been used to the Origin B2, the two problems we found were (a) it did not have the DS2 location near me in its database; and (b) I was disappointed that you had to set a route for the TomTom to differentiate between speed cameras on opposite side of the carriageway for the purpose of triggering the klaxon. Its a handy feature but I don't think it relegates the B2 to ebay just yet.

thinking of getting one of these, a few questions

- Will it more or less require a memory upgrade straight away?
- How long does the battery last?
- What POIs are available to download that don't already come with it and can they be gotten for free from the website on this thread?
- How did PhenomS2k install his?!

Cheers
