I didn't have one on my S2000 or on my SLK 350, but as soon as I got the SLK 55 AMG, many of the usual companies refused to quote without a tracker. With the tracker my broker told me my latest policy had a 10% discount because of the tracker.

I have had insurance companies not quote because there was no tracker.

It was more to do with the fact that I wouldn't like to lose this car but an insurance discount would be a definite benefit.

Unfortunately at work we use Minorplant, which has improved since first installed but wouldn't rely on it to find a vehicle!
Minorplanet IMO are rubbish (well they were back then!)

I used to developed vehicle telemtry systems with asset tracking and most of our customers back then had minorplanet systems and said they were awful!

the reports looked flash but the integrity of their data was questionable

The presentation 5 years ago was apparently very flash etc etc etc but the service after that went down hill very quickly. Unfortunately the person responsible at the time signed the contract not realising it was for five years and we couldn't get out of it despite several attempts!

We also run Vehicle Insight (part of Northgate) and that one is a lot better. Rings and tells us when the vehicles aren't reporting and web based system is so much easier to use.

There are cheap DIY ones CJ.

You phone the car and it starts texting you back it's GPS position.
