[goestocheckpolicyandfindswithsomereliefthatheisind eedcovered]

In reply to the people saying it'd be different if he'd hit someones s2k, if it's a genuine mistake, then I understand. It's the people that deliberately don't insure, MOT etc that need to be taken out and shot.

Oversight or not it wouldn't help you if you were an innocent third party, fortunately it was a spot check and nobody else was involved.

If nothing else, I hope this thread highlights the difference between the level of cover actually in place have as opposed to what people think they have.

Unfortunately for the Mugen dude, I have a feeling its going to be a lesson hard learned.

What may piss me off about this, is if he gets an IN10 that's an arse of an endorsement. And it's the little guys that get screwed, but if you were completely dishonest then you'd get away scot free as they wouldn't be able to find you.

I have never known someone get a written warning for no insurance ..... it is just not something people get warned over. It should also matter not whether the officer who stopped him was traffic or a beat officer - the result would almost always be the same for this.

As I said earlier in this thread I have alot of sympathy but ultimately I think he is stuffed. The best chance will be that if reported for summons the local court is busy and the police can't forward all the cases so have to 'bin' some .... if this is the case as they are short on court time then he may be lucky as I am sure they would have a pile of cases in the most 'deserving' order - not that they would ever admit that. For example ....

Person stopped driving a heap showing no insurance on computer, no current keeper and not in roadworthy condition. Driver lives on a caravan site and gives 4 different names and addresses to police before they get fed up with him and nick him for lying. When they fingerprint him they find he is known for multiple traffic offences, burglaries, a few assaults and of course the obligatory drink drive. As they now know who he is they release him but report him for process for no insurance and lying about his name (i.e. he will be in theory summonsed).

Compare that to the circumstances of this thread - now, if you were in charge and could only proceed with one case because the courts were busy whoch would it be Difficult isn't it

That I feel is his only hope ..... and that the person in charge who can make this decision doesn't prefer the easy option of sending a summons to soneone who has registered their vehicle, replied to correspondence and will turn up at court

The white middle classes need to rise up

and go have a cup of tea and some biscuits.
Because lets face it, they (me I suppose) are the whipping boy because we'll do **** all about it. To borrow a phrase from pistonheads, piss is boiling nicely.
