Mate of mine had a Lancia Delta like that - would break down at the same spot every day.

It would run fine off a bottle of fuel, but there was some sort of air lock in the tank that would make it stop at the same point every morning in the traffic.

Despite replacing the entire fuel lines, etc, they never cured it.

Well as you have probably guessed - they can't find a problem or replicate it

If it was cutting out the diagnostic memory should have fault codes in it.

This is because it isnt an EMS failure and it is intermittant, EMS systems store fault codes where the EML (Orange engine light) will remain on.

My guess would of been coils but with the gauge fault I am certain its a simply loose wire or weak earth to the tank unit. This is an assembly which contains the pump and sender unit (a float that tells the gauge on the dash how much fuel you have.

Again.... check that wiring!!!

I had kwik fit look at regassing my air con the other day - they looked under the bonnet for about 5 mins and then said they couldn't do it as they didn't have the right oil. Do you think this could be related in anyway? I'll tell the garage to check the wiring as I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking

No, aircon wont be linked to it at all, they just didnt have the early type gas but I think the later gas will suffice.

Yep, check it out, its on the top of the tank, not sure if EG & EK have an inspection plate under the rear seat. Simply lift up the rear seat base and carpet (if applicable) and look for a screwed down plate, if its there undo and remove to view / inspect the pump connections... easy peasy.

I meant could they have dislodged something when they were messing about with whatever they were messing about with?

check all your fuses, if any are dodgy you could have an intermittent circuit - this happened to me - the alarm kept going crackers in mine, we replaced the relevant fuse after re-seating all of them. The AA guy actually did this for me!

Started after Kwik Fit...didn't have the right refrigerant...

Sounds highly likely.

Is it an EK Civic? In which case, the car is quite old (seven years at least). You might have picked up some water or crap in the fuel tank. There IS an access panel under the rear seat, so Lloyd could be on the right track.

EKs are not exactly known for unreliability of any kind at all.
