Default Urgent Advice Needed

I've just driven home in my 1.6 Civic sport and on 4 occaisions it has just cut out for no apparent reason. When it is cutting out it seems to be immobilising the car as is impossible to turn the steering wheel or so it seems. Each time it starts with no problems.

On the last occasion when I restarted it my fuel gauge was on empty and the warning light was on - I was certain I had half a tank but limped to the garage hoping that it wouldn't cut out again as i was likely to cause an accient. Made it there and put in

Karen, have you phoned the Honda garage? Can't think what the problem is at all. Would offer to take you to work but I'm on call all weekend.

I'm sure someone will pop along with decent advice.

Don't know what the problem could be, but suspect the steering issue could be related to the power steering pump not working when the engine isn't running.

Hope you get it sorted!

Dodgy fuel pump causing it to cut out and hence messing with the fuel gauge also?

(Clueless TBH though) Think you need you local "friendly" dealer to check it (If you can trust yours )

My dad thinks it could be the immobiliser cutting it for some reason. Have been told by several people that the steering is just because there is no power for the power steering and that if i had really put some effort into it I would have been able to steer it!! Pretty scary when you have no obvious steering and you are heading towards the pavement on a roundabout!!!

The car is being left where it is tomorrow and i'm getting a taxi to work. Will try and drive it the 1.5 mile to my local honda dealer (Alan Day) but have never used them before. I normally make the effort to take it to Yeomans in chichester.

Fingers crossed they are able to find the fault very quickly and sort it or find me a courtesy car as am working all week until 2 in the morning and really can't afford the taxi to and from work every night I don't hold much hope though!

Thanks but don't worry. Tomorrow is easily sorted as working in hospital but the following week is the PITA

I've seen this before when there was some filth in the fuel pump/filter because someone was running it too low too often and the gunge at the bottom of the tank was getting into the fuel pump. This was on a Volvo but was exactly the same symptom.

I hardly ever run my car low as I'm always scared that I'll run out full stop and breakdown!!

OMG, turning 30 really does play a huge part in reducing your insurance premiums. I have been toying with the idea of getting a type R but the insurance has put me off - less than
