I'll sign it, but i suspect it will do #### all.

That being said, the road pricing one did seem to make the government think again.

I'm not signing it.

If I want a car in a certain band, I'll pay for it. Just like I do with insurance.

At least it will make all the twats in 4X4s driving around town think twice. Why have an X5 as a runaround when a Focus or Scenic will do?

I do agree with the sentiment that these faux off-roaders are a pointless thing, but increasing the price of these things just increases desirability. The only use I can see for them is as a vulgar display of how much money you've got.

I also have no real problem with the gov increasing tax on new cars to try and encourage more economical cars. What I have a problem with is the retrospective nature of this increase. Would it better for the environment if everyone with a 2001-2005 S2000 scrapped their car and bought a Prius?

This is not just a UK thing, a lot of EU countries are increasing tax on high C02 emitters by a massive amount.

My only problem is that the VTEC engines which are inherently fuel efficient performance cars and are very economical until you want/need to venture into VTEC, get hammered for tax because of the way they measure C02/kg

Yes it would. There would also be alot less crashes on the exits of roundabouts in September Why should an 01 S2000 pay less than an 06? They produce the same official CO2/kg figures. In fact the 06 almost certainly produces less because it will be more efficient by virtue of DBW.

But by 06 the government had already indicated that cars would be taxed by C02, whereas in 01....

Still as an 00 owner you may think I have nothing to worry about - except the ATR hits the high band too and is 02!

It tax lads.

If they don't use all this environmental nonsense, they'll use something else as an excuse.

The impact all of this is having on the second hand car market is excellent in my opinion.

Have you seen the prices of A8s and S class Mercs ? Its brilliant

At this rate I'll be changing my beater every year - and increasing my carbon footprint as I go.

Woo hooo
