There's one very obvious market for these, and that's teenagers. Well done to VW if they can carry it off, the children of the Home Counties will salute you!

The VAGes are so goddamn rich they can afford it.

But that's a blinding deal for a poverty-spec Up! Poverty being the crux, given what's unfolding.

Are they gonna make a VW Lo! for the chinese market with the redundant parts of the name?

Suzuki Swifts are VAT free atm

You can get into a mid-spec five door (which is all you really need) for just under £10K if you push it

They are good little cars

Remember when the Polo was the smallest VW?

Then came the Lupo, and now the Up...at this rate, in 20 years' time a Golf will be the size of a current Bentley

IIRC, that's a Reno. So would be chlamydia.

Edit - actually it's a Maruti/Suzuki, so choose your embarrassment.

When will the Golf be discontinued for being too big?

Case in point is Opel; the big cars Kapitan/Admiral/Diplomat and Rekord/Commodore/Senator planks both eventually got too big for the badge.

VW without the Golf seems inconceivable.

They probably need cars like that to carbon offset their motorsport offerings like the Polo WRC due to debut in 2013 ...
