Unhappy Warranty problem

I got my Legacy back from it's first service Thursday night and have only just looked at my invoice.

I'd had it booked in for a 1 year/12k mile service but they've written on the invoice that the interval for the H6 engine is 10k miles.

Checked the service book and, sure enough, it was due at 10k.

It had 11,400 on it when it went in and the book says you're allowed 1000 over, so that makes me 400 miles too late

It's my fault, I was convinced it was 12k intervals. I know the rules are very clear but do you think this will cause me problem if I ever have to make a claim?

Do manufacturers tend to be draconian about this or will it just depend on the nature of the claim, what sort of mood the person dealing with it is in etc?

Probably depends what you claim for.

I had a similar problem to you but with the intervals between the service as opposed to the mileage. My car had it's second service 2 1/2 months past the second year ..... but at only 7K miles.

I rang Honda and explained it had only done 7K ..... but was late for the second years 18K sevice. Their reply was that if you ask 'officially' then we will say the car is outside the warranty as you haven't complied with the conditions ..... but in reality if something went wrong they would probably cover it given the car was only a bit outside the timescale allowed.

I asked Chiswick Honda and they said as the mileage was low but it was a bit late with a service there was absolutely nothing to worry about. Thames Honda said it was outside warranty

I think what I am trying to say is that you should be OK for minor stuff .... but if something big goes wrong and they look at a way of avoiding paying then it may be a bit different.

I didn't like this being a bit of a 'grey' area with one person intimating one thing but saying 'officially' another ..... so got another aftermarket warranty provided by the selling 'independent' dealer (who had assured me the car was in warranty when I bought it - so down to them) . Only snag is that this second warranty requires 6K services. Guess my car will have a larger service history than most by the time I sell it !

I was about 700 miles over my service interval with my Honda extended warranty - and yes they turned down a claim
