Default When Audi had Class

Whilst walking in Rothbury yesterday afternoon I noticed this beautiful old Audi parked-up; it absolutely oozed understated cool.

It was in stunning condition; even the Discount Blue colour looked absolutely 'right'.

This was a 'big' car when new but it was dwarfed by the adjacent contemporary Skoda.

Reminds me of this I saw at ED38 a while back, ok it has been fiddled with but I get what you mean about the shape. Can't find any pictures of the engine bay but it was gleaming, inside and out.

I'd want to punch someone for doing that! Muppets.

The F103 was a M-B design, hence the similarity to a W113/8. It was a very good car in its day and really saved VW (DKW was sold to them by the time it entered production) as their absurd Noseybear bombed. Rumour was, Audi was banned from developing it, but fortunately they disobeyed the order.

The early cars had a 'middle-pressure' engine with about a 12:1 compression ratio. Unheard of back then, as it was half-way between a diesel and an otto. It used Diesel-style swirl chambers in order to avoid pinking by stratifying the charge. A upper-middle car that could exceed 30 mpg was very good back then.

The 'rough' sound led them to lower the CR later & the engine later gained an OHC head and wound up in the LT. And the 924...

Because it's a 'scene' show and low and slow ( read ruined and unuseable) rules.

They're getting round it, slowly. Thinner pillars made of steel so strong the fire brigade can't cut you out after you've stuffed it, etc.

It was that stupid fashion for TGV windscreen angles that ruined many modern cars.

But the massive greenhouses on those clean, low-waisted late-sixtes Bertone-inspired designs had unsurpassed visibility all-round.

And amazing room for its size.
