Default Why your average road user is an idiot

So since being constantly ran into on my push bike, I have installed a nice full HD camera on my helmet in order to prove to people what I'm up against.

The first clip shows a close one with even a cyclist not paying attention, but it's the second one which shows the average idiot on the road

1st clip shows a bus with a 'Think Bike' sticker not indicating - pretty standard. The real action is between 30 and 40 seconds showing a car completely failing to see me in my high vis outfit in a bike lane

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSKpNPHQYQA

So let me set the scene for this one. It's 08.45am and I'm on a road with 4 schools on it. The road itself is a 20mph limit and it's wet with parked cars littering the side of the road, parked where they shouldn't be. The pavements are packed with kids walking into school. In terms of driving it's about as risky as it gets. But for some it's an inconvenience that they should wait. I average about 15-20mph to give you an idea of the speed of the car. At 23 seconds that crunch you hear is the car driving into me.

Fortunately no one was injured and the Police have now got a copy of the video

Fingers crossed we can remove these idiots from teh road.

Some ridiculous undertaking on your part, I'd say, particularly of the white car in the second clip. Armed with your camera, were you trying to get a raise out of her?

If I'd come across you on the road, I'd have taken you out properly ...

Can't watch any more of that - you're an idiot of the highest order and you're going to end up technically right and very dead if you continue the way you do. You keep getting pushed off / knocked off? I didn't get any further than you trying to prove to the Civic that it was really your right of way.

2nd video - why do you insist on putting yourself in harms way? You were a clown to push down the inside of the fiesta when you could see clearly that the rest of the road was littered with cars, is it really worth that 3 seconds saved off a journey to risk being squashed?

Oh and it's not a dedicated cycle lane. Even if it was and over a tonne of car comes into it - you need to demonstrate some better life preservation skills. We might not have seen some shining examples of car driving but by god does your bike riding attitude need some adjusting. Every time you talk about it it's always you pushing 'right' beyond what anyone with a modicum of common sense would say was safe.

I had little sympathy for you originally ( due to the way you explained how you ride ) and having seen the video evidence, i have even less.

edit: in fact i'll go one step further. It was you shouting at the person in the white car that caused them to get angry and come past you the way they did, not see the puddle and the ended up soaking those kids.

Sort it out Ron - you're apparently a nice bloke but you're a knob on that bike and an even worse one with that camera going.

You're in the wrong in the second video. You do not have right of way, due to the car being parked on the cycle lane. YOU have to give way to passing traffic, should an obstacle be blocking your route. It looks like six of one and half a dozen of the other, reaction time for driver, and awkward for the driver to react quick enough to make an informed decision. If this is all in the right time frame, on both videos, you are travelling too fast.... especially undertaking the said bus on the first one.
It isn't heroic going so quick on a push bike, you do need to slow down and not just look ahead... you need to look more behind you, otherwise you will get flattened. I understand the point of the video, and your angle of a lack of disregard from drivers. I'm going to be controversial and say, that in my experience as a road user of more than 25 years, driving skills deteriorate and its like you're pushed along in a rat race. I hate it. London and its roads, like a hornets nest of cars flying round everywhere. Almost like theres too many of them on the road, people pushing in and ignoring queues. 5 years was enough driving donw there for me. Its much more relaxed app Norf!
I especially like the slowing down at 1.02 on 2nd video, showing your lycra butt to the schoolgirl.. Perv!

Seems to me you were the one:
- not paying attention
- not reading the road properly
- not being considerate to other road users.

Hopefully, if the police do look at the video, you'll be the one getting a stern talking to.

You give your location as "Frustration". Maybe you should think about moving.

Ron, you come across as a complete knob. You got yourself a camera and went looking for trouble.Typical arrogant cyclist behaviour. You winge on about your rights and keeping cars out of the cycle lanes but think it ok to ride on the pavement, ignore red lights and ride across zebra crossings.
What was the point of moving into the centre of the cycle box at the lights only to go straight ahead? Was this to demonstrate your rights to the cars that you blocked off?
You provoked the white car, he was keeping left to leave room for other road users, it is called consideration, something you lack.

Am I the only one to wish that one of the vans parked on the left had opened their door?

I cycle roughly 12 miles a day however my journey to work begins at 0630 with the return leg normally commencing at 1830. meaning that fortunately in that even though I cycle on some major roads they are always pretty quiet.

There seems to be a fair few cyclists in Plymouth too so I don't know if this helps with driver attitude.

Taking primary in the road is something I do often If I see a pedestrian refuge ahead or a narrow bit of road, mostly to stop impatient car drivers squeezing through however you taking primary in the second video seemed more tit for tat rather than for your own safety. If anything you put yourself in harms way. Same goes for your undertaking in the first video. you were travelling far too fast. I bet that Civic driver had a real scare when you shot out of the cycle lane, don't forget that he can't see you due to the other traffic!!

You are the type if cyclist that give us a bad name. You also need to stop trying to antagonise car drivers too as the next one you piss off may not be so patient with the next cyclist they come across.

Ride like you're invisible NOT invincible!

Bet you wouldn't show the police the first clip. especially the part with you riding on the wrong side of the road. I suppose if there had been someone in the right turn lane it would have been him in the wrong.
Ron you might think of yourself as a driving god, but a decent cyclist I don't think so.
