Make them pay the majority of the car. If its a car they have saved up for and bought, they will have more respect for it and treat it better. "its theirs."

If its given to them, its not what they wanted, face it it will be a compromise between what you want to give them and what they want, they will just rag it until it breaks, crashed, get the insurance money and get the car they want!
