Price given for my S was only a couple of hundred less than the trade-in price suggested by What Car?

You probably won't get that though.
If it's the company I've heard of, they come to your car and knock hundreds or thousands off, on the basis of faults, stone chips, tyre wear, kerbed wheels and so on.
