Yawn - another E46 M3 thread

It was the usual fun drive to my brothers to work on the other money pit.
Mates just bought an e92 M3. I'll try and get a drive on if next weekend and see what differences there are between old and new money M's.
IMO the e46 was ahead of its time.
It's been over a year since I updated this
Just passed the 70k mark so that's nearly 30k in under 2 years.
It got attacked by a pheasant earlier this year, insurance job, but good as new again.
Picked up some scrapes on the wheels, but I'll be getting those refurbed as soon as it's convenient.
There's also the inevitable stone chips which I'll also get seen to but I'm not sure when is best to do that.
I've had a few things done under warranty, a new SMG selector, lambda sensor, brake calliper. I'm really kicking myself for trying to save a few quid by taking an excess, the saving has been dwarfed what I've had to pay out since
As if anyone needs telling, it continues to be bloody expensive to run and it doesn't help when OCD dictates that you have everything done at the dealer and insist on OEM tyres etc.
I've got a dilemma now.
I feel like I should move it on as it's still in lovely nick with reasonable miles but I'm piling them on and there's no sign that that's going to change any time soon.
I'd also rather be wasting the money on race cars as that's where my heart is, so I should replace it with something much, much cheaper to run or there's no point. But what? I'll start a thread
I've toyed with the idea of tucking it away and getting a beater but then I'd end up not using it all.
I should man up and sell it

The silly thing is, I'd worked that out a few years ago, although the need for a tow car gave me a good excuse for a big engined road car
The problem is, the car is as much about the lovely noises it makes when you're pootling about as the outright performance.
It's just such a nice thing to do all those miles in.

Almost as boring as Ron's continuous whittering about 'track toys'
ever since he realised the Police dont hang out at the pit exit of Blyton Park...

If you like your cars, having a dull daily driver will bore you, and you will look for something more exciting.

I'd love dearly to race and I should hopefully be on a grid somewhere in the next couple of years.
Don't get me wrong, the sound of the BMW straight six is glorious and is up there in my Top 5 sounding engines, perhaps even Top 3.
However, pick your anaolgy...
Once you've had a blow job, w4nking will do, but you'll only want more head.
And if you only have a choice of one, you do what you have to do

Once i got into hiring a Caterham on track, driving quickly on the road lost some of its lustre.
But you still need something exciting to drive on the road. Even if its just for the odd overtake or quick corner. Otherwise you just end up frustrated.
It is.
I've had a good think about it, looked at the alternatives and got a rough idea of it's current value (the gulf between private sellers and the dealers/specialists is amusing).
If it was a straight choice between racing and keeping it, it would be long gone but fortunately, at the moment at least, I'm not in that position
I'll be keeping it for a while longer, I'm not done with it yet.
