Yawn - another E46 M3 thread
Has the CS and CSL got the same steering rack?
I also head the CSL has to have modified camber (-2) on the front to make the steering come alive. I may be talking bollocks but worth a look?

Yes, same steering rack.
I believe the suspension is different to the stock M3 but not the same as the CSL.
It wouldn't surprise me if it only needed a small tweak to improve it but as it spends the vast majority of the time going in straight lines I'll probably leave it as it is.
I'd say the balance is about right at the moment, adding more feel to the steering may take those longer journeys feel so again.
It's all about compromises

Yes, it's a case of M3 stiff, CS - stiffer, CSL stiffest.
And I was joking about the parts to make it look like a CSL.
Most people just see the CSL wheels and think it's a CSL. People in the know don't tend to mind a set of CSL wheels on a normal M3 or CS as they look nice and handle better. Any of the other external bits tend to look like you're trying too hard.

BMW don't know the first thing about setting up M-cars.
They need to taken be somewhere like CG or WIM to get them set up properly.
Otherwise they all handle like pigs and will spit you off the road at the first opportunity.

I'll be leaving it as is but I am quite tempted to change the chrome grills for chavvy black carbon ones - must resist

It's so chav
Just got back from another weekend driving in Scotland. MR is a fantastic car!

I can see why the MR is perfect for your trips Dave
I've put quite a few miles on it now, mostly motorway but there's been plenty of opportunity to play now.
It seems very keen to go sideways and it feels quite safe doing so. It's a very flattering car and can be driven on the throttle very easily. It's almost reminiscent of the Caterham.
Instead of using the traction control to stop me binning it, I'm using it to stop me being too much of a twat on the public highway
MPG is still pretty impressive, I'm averaging about 26 at the moment although I'm beginning to suspect it's a little more optimistic than the Subaru was.
I'm quite at home with all the settings now but one thing that frustrates me is all the steps I have to take to change from gentle potter mode to balls out thrash mode.
It would be great to have one button that adjusts the seat, engages sport mode, switches off traction control, turns up the gear change and switches to sequential because by the time you've done all that you're in the next village
The only problem so far is the interior passenger door handle which seems to of snapped something inside so I'm having to be a gentleman all the time.
I was going to wait for a couple more niggles before visiting the dealer but I might as well get it done. I just have to be careful I don't come home with a V8
Overall, still chuffed. Whatever your view of the marque, I dont see how anyone with an ounce of petrol in their veins wouldn't enjoy the drive

Zafira and other pos owners seem particularly vexed by M cars
