Nowt wrong with BMW drivers ... well some

... but the 1M is seriously ugly ! Saw my first one on the M25 the other day - looks totally stupid and OTT. Get a 135i and map it ... same performance without the stupid looks. RS3 for me if I went away from my oh so perfect diesel

I see plenty of idiots who have been buying the 1 Series of late...

Me: "How about a Golf, or Focus?"

Them: "Oh but I must have a BMW to match Daddy's; he's even giving me 80% of the money so I can have one because I can't possibly buy one myself"

This is the typical BMW owner mentality that I am faced with on a day to day basis...mainly youngish people too...no wonder they're getting stacked so quickly.

Funnily enough I saw an old Top Gear on Dave earlier where they completely rubbished the 1 series (at launch) as it was so much more expensive than a Golf, its self over-priced.

Their conclusion was that you could get a much better car in that market than the 1 Series.
Yes, you can but in reality the 1 Series isn't competing with someone who'd buy a Focus or an Astra. In that market rear drive means nothing.

The 1 Series is - in my experience - being bought by or leased by company car drivers who aren't on 3 Series wages yet.
As Clarkson said, you're paying for this (the propellor on the front)

This M mode must do something quite dramatic to the DSC (BMW stability pack)

As I find that these cars are idiot proof with the freds engaged.

And I mean, you have to try SERIOUSLY hard to get out of shape.
Even in DTC modes, where DSC stability effects are reduced and you can get it sideways or spin wheels -
you cannot easily rotate the car. Have tried very hard at this
The N54 has a huge low down torque though, so you can break traction at 2-3k in the wet with just a little stab of the pedal.

Gareth is right of course.
How many quality RWD compacts are there on the market?
And I would agree on the CC purchases too, the economy and emissions are on par with tiny Vulvas etc,
so from a tax and BIK point alone they make perfect sense.

The majority of BMW drivers probably think their cars are front wheel drive anyway

anyone who thinks the Golf, and especially the Focus, are better than the 1-series clearly occupies a different driving universe to mine

there might be some exceptions in the ranges of course and I'm not a fan of everything BMW
