with all the stuff mentioned above by gsi and fellow owners, my post was a bit long and I omitted a few things. 
Nothing wrong with an M Roadster at all but like the S it demands respect, and I think by M Division's own high standards the handling wasn't as, er... resolved as some of the other M cars. You'd get one for around
I saw the Z3M years ago in my town. When I saw it I remember thinking that it looked like the car all Z3s should be.
If a single car, a Z3M came out and no other derivs, that would have been a stonking model.

Or even a cooking version plus the M would seem ok.
I know they sell more four bangers than six pots, but the fours make the rest comical.
The 'one version' helps give other cars their exclusivity.
