Ash, dude I drove one for about 500 miles at least. Great on the motorway, awful on the back roads and slow and yes, it was the 3.0.

Jo and I posted a thread about this about a year ago - I'll see if I can find it.

I did too, and wrote a review on here.

I agree with Kelk, great A road and motorway, but awful B road handling. The engine is nice, but maybe a little to refined and quiet after the S.

To me its simple - if you want a hardcore, rear-wheel drive sports car which sounds like a manic banshee on the redline you get the S2000.

I had two S2000s and enjoyed every minute of owning both of them.

However, my circumstances changed and I needed something more comfortable and refined for motorways. I also wanted a 2 seater convertible and something with enough poke to keep up with most traffic

On that basis alone, the 3.0 Z4 (for me at least) has fit the bill

I had a 3.0 Z4 for 3 months while my S was written off.

Shockingly terrifying on anything other than smooth as glass surface, and zero visibility of the corners of the car when trying to navigate around tight supermarket carparks with high kerbs.

Nice on the motorway though, looks nice in black, nice not having to manually unclip the roof...

This is something that I just don't understand

My Z4 is extremely composed on all road surfaces - I don't know if that's because my car has the optional M-Sport suspension? I had read all the reviews of the Z4 prior to test driving one and they *all* slated the handling saying that it was a real bone-shaker of a ride???? This is *not* my experience at all!!

I took my Z4 to North Wales on Saturday and had a great time. Don't get me wrong, I *know* I would have had a better time on those twisting B-roads if I was in the S, but as I keep saying, my Z4 is there primarily as a mile muncher first, and as an out-and-out sports car second. Nonetheless, I *did* have a great time and it was great fun. (It wasn't a patch on doing the "Col de Vence" in the S2000 though )

The only complaint I have about the car is the way it tramlines, which is apparently due to the Run Flat Tyres. However, this is something that you get used to and tramlining can be reduced when the 'Sport' mode is selected. (Selecting Sport mode also improves throttle response and adds more weight to the steering).

All I am saying is that I will NEVER take a magazine review of a car at face value ever again! Make up your own mind folks! Besides, test driving new cars is a great way to pass the time on a Saturday afternoon

Part of the problems with these cars is the simply idiotic mix of wheel/tyre/suspension options.

The same applies to most German cars, in fact.

What you gonna do? Bug the dealer to try every combo, until you find what works? See ya Domesday.

I do wish they'd grow up & make proper optimised versions & let the vacuous, inane style wankers go to Khan/Halfords or whatever to wreck the cars afterwards.

It wasn't a massively shaking ride, it just dived all over the road following every tiny undulation and amplifying it.
