2001 ECU Swap
I Wanted to find out if anyone in the Raleigh/Durham area has had their AP1 ecu swapped at one of the local dealers. If so, what was the cost? I changing my 2001 ecu with a 2003. I know that the keys have to be reprogrammed for the ecu and the VIN for the new ecu is needed.
Does anybody work at one of the dealers and knows how to do this?
Thanks!

Not sure if anything has to be done...the 03 ecu does not throw the vin when being inspected...that did not start until 2004. Not sure about keys...but would think it should just plug and play...have you tried it yet?
I did it with my car. '00 with an '02 ECU. Dealer charged I think $65 to program it. You need their computer system hookup to do it. They did not need the VIN of the old car far as I know.
Any dealer should be able to do it but I would probably just prep it and unbolt the ECU to make it super easy for them......less things to go wrong as I am sure you will take greater car than them in taking things off/putting them on.

It's not plug and play. You would need to reprogram the new ECU to accept your keys. Your nearest Honda dealer will do it for for you. You can also swap the immobilizer or whatever is the name from your old ecu to the new one if you know something about electronics
Around 3 years ago, I swapped my '01 ecu to the '03 ecu. Did this at the Southpoint Honda in Durham. Drove inside and to the side of the Service Area, got on the ground and swapped the ECU's around. Had a service guy come over with his nice lil Honda diag machine and reprogram the 2 keys. They will need the old VIN of course. Whole process took under an hour and cost me about $65.00
That's the best way to do it.

Yea, maybe I'll contact them instead.
I just talked to Leith Honda in Raleigh and they wanted $55 to program both keys, but they also wanted an extra $110 to swap the ECU which is like a 20 min job at most. I guess I'll just do the swap to the side of their service area.

It worked for you? I had a type 1 board in my 01 and a type 2 in my 03. They wouldn't talk. I was under the impression that the codes where stored off of the daughter board and it just ran the encryption.
