3m paint defender(clear bra)
well after much thought, i decided to try this new product. the thought of a spray on clear bra was to good to be true. this stuff is not cheap...26$ a can. the process involves washing the front of the car and drying. then you are to apply the wax that come with the kit making sure it does not dry befor wiping off. once thats done, tape up parts your not spraying. then spray the can of product on. just like spray painting. it takes 2 to 4 hours to dry and 1 to 4 days to fully cure and be water resistant.
after going thru the steps it was time to spray it. first 4 passes sprayed sooth. suddenly it started spraying like a child sptting leaving numerous bumps of product that would not flo out like paint would. i immediatly got a rag and water to get it off befor it started drying. unfortunatly the stuff left a film that would not come off. i freaked thinking my paint was ruined. luckily my paint and body guy was able to buff it out.
conclusion, a product that does not live up to its name. unusual for 3m! usually thier stuff is good quality. not this stuff. lesson learned. for those thinking of trying this product, think twice befor you do and if you do, test it on something other than your car. not a pleasant experience at all.

I have used this twice on the Lex. The first time I put it on too thin and created an issue removing it. I redid it and laid it on way too thick causing it to run, the upside to thick coats is it is easier to remove and gives better protection. The only other issue I had was that it was difficult to remove bugs from the surface since it is a semi-mat finish. In scrubbing bugs off I ended up scuffing the film. Removing the film can be difficult near odd angles on the car.
It is a good product for protecting a bumper etc for a long drive etc. I do not think it is a long term solution like the 3M clear bra. I put it on the Lex since I had a lot of driving lined up - about 4000 miles over 5-6 weeks.
I ordered several cans planning on laying a nice coat on each car, but at this time, I am not planning on it since it does not hold up as well as I would like to scrubbing.

no,i hadn't even got thru a 1/4 of the can. it started well after about 4 passes it was spitting it out. i feel if you shoot this stuff thru a actual paint gun, it would work. not a spray can.

I think the spitting is a common issue - the instructions I read someplace talks about if you get the spitting to turn the can over to clear the nozzle. I can't remember where I read that. - Obviously not do that near the car.
I had problems with the aerosol can spitting as well and runs. I called 3M and they have new nozzle design and told me to go back to Autozone and exchange my used for a new can with the new nozzle and even said they'd mail me new cans if Autozone didn't take them back(the new nozzle is shaped something like an arrow). There was absolutely zero spitting with the new nozzle design and I put on 6-7 thin coats instead of the 3 thick coats the directions recommend and waited about 3-5 minutes between coats to let each layer set up a little so that the liquid didn't pile up and run. Turned out perfect this time.
I think the problem, especially with our cars, is that the hood is at a fairly steep angle which promoted runs. But if you use the thin layers and wait a bit between spraying them this won't happen.
