Default cai

the new S i bought has a injen cai that the filter itself resides in the front bumper. my question is are these prone to inhale water when it rains? never had one of these and always run modded stock boxs. makes good power and sounds good. anyone have info or experience on this? like to get the skinny on this and not find out the hard way.

no, all filters (if cleaned properly) have oil on them to repel water. Water isn't going to get in there unless you submerge it.

not sure if the injen filter has oil or if its a dry filter. can't even see the crazy thing. and the intake has no bypass valve.

I know some make a "shield" to somewhat cover the filter.

Not sure if this is something that will help but what the hell.

like I said...all filters are oiled. I would suggest getting a k&n recharge kit and cleaning the filter.

The Injen filter is water repellent...probably because you oil it...lol But don't worry about getting water in, unless of course you are using it as a ski boat as well.

The oil is not on the filters to repel water, it is there as a filtration element. And no, not all filters use oil. I have been running one for about four years now.

The filter is oiled to catch dirt, not repel water.

Water can easily get into any filter that has a low pick up and is open to the front of the car (aka not shielded). Hitting a big puddle while driving will easily submerge a low to the ground filter, fyi. I was driving in a bad storm and hit a huge puddle that I thought was going to rip the nose off the car, it was deep and a moving car will push the water even higher up. If I'd had a low rise filter it would have been under the water.

Personally, I'd avoid any low-altitude CAI on the S.

Yeah...I wouldnt use any of those on a cai. Oil repels water, whether that is the primary purpose of an oiled filter or not is beyond me.
