Can't remember the name of the company; I'll have to look it up, but it's one that I bought through AAA. I did not realize those companies were not part of, nor endorsed by AAA, but that AAA was simply a reseller for them. So....I would advise doing a bit more research before buying.

Given it to do over again, I would definitely spend a little more and purchase the Honda extended warranty; faster response and direct payments.

The latest word, as of Friday, is that the 15k engine was there, and that they were only waiting on my flywheel to be remachined and returned(having the clutch replaced while she's all apart), which was supposed to be done in one day.

The Alcoa service rep (Mike) has been amazing and very helpful. He said he knows we're working to having her ready by Wednesday, and that so far, all was looking good. <positive vibes>

Great to see you are going to drive that "gray" car at DBR.

Gray, Silver what's the difference? Now red that's a different story entirely. So if all goes well you will pick up your Silverstone Metallic car Wed, Si?

I finally got Sheila's old engine up on a stand yesterday. (Thanks, Bryan!)

When I rolled the engine over to take off the oil pan I heard a lot of metal banging around inside. That can't be good. Then, when I pulled the pan off bolts and bearing caps fell all over the floor. WTF?!

Turns out, the shop had unbolted the bearing caps of #1 and #4 and then just dumped bolts and caps in the pan before putting it back on.

We didn't throw a rod but we did spin the bearing on #4. (Exactly what Bryan said he thought.) The block is fine but I don't know the condition of the #4 crank journal since it's still covered by the spun bearing. I'll have to push the piston down a bit and free it up to see.

Here's a picture of the offending journal, covered by its spun bearing:

Next I'll start pulling off the top end to get a look at how Crown Honda's disastrous valve job has fared. The car ran rich as if at least one valve was leaking hydrocarbons after that and never again regained full power. Since Crown doesn't stand behind its work this will be the first chance to really see what's going on.

Sheila's new engine is running well and all of her new wheels are back in place and looking great. Now, if we could just find some gas.

Why don't you just convert to another fuel option. You're a handy guy- grow your own corn, afix a blender/juicer whatever in the trunk and voila! Your gas problem solved!

Seriously though- Crown should hold some responsibility to their work.

Glad that Sheila is back on the road!
