For about another week, I'm at GSK in the crazy looking building at Alexander and the Durham Freeway. The week after, I'll be off Kit Creek Road, more on the Raleigh/Cary side of RTP.

kr, what do you do with GSK? They're one of my customers.

I don't mind at all - I work for Perimeter eSecurity, a small ~ 350 employee outfit HQ'd in Milford, Connecticut. We mainly do secured networks for financial industry clients, including reporting necessary for their audits, etc. Our NOC is in Morrisville, near the Airport, and my office is there. That facility houses our Sec Eng, Sec Ops, and Deployment engineering teams as well. I'm the Technical Lead for new deployments.

Cool cool. Was just wondering. Seems like alot of you Raleigh guys are friendly, haven't really spent any significant time up there personally. I just moved back to the Charlotte area a few months ago and haven't really gotten back into the scene down here yet.

I was doing end user level tech support out at Cisco for 50k+/year, no certs or anything.

I'm really disappointed to hear what the rest of the market is like....

Sometimes, yes. I see what must be your silverstone quite often, another Rio, a Suzuka every few weeks, and occasionally both an NFR and a GPW out on Airport Blvd., mostly.
Not my Silverstone...as I never drive it to work. You probably see the guy that works at ADT near 54. He has a Purdue license tag.

Karl - we met years ago over lunch at some Italian place on 54/55. Diane got me to come out. Met her thru Jack. Kendra and her husband (can't remember his name) came too. I worked at GSK back then. GSK Main = horrible building!

Hard to beat what Cisco pays...

Just lost a couple of level 1 engineers with about 2 years experience each to them for almost double what I could pay.

Cisco pays great for some stuff, but some of there things recently have paid crap (well about 6-12 months ago) when everybody was paying less.

Definitely get networking certs, Cisco rules all others.
PC work is a dirt cheap commodity with no upward mobility.

I am trying to get a guy hired for our company in charlotte for $20/hour and that is a steal for us. Our bill rate is $225 minimum.

best part is that as you get more certs ie. CCxA ->CCxP ->CCIE your pay moves with you. the quicker you go, the quicker you accelerate your pay.

CCIEs can easily make $150k and up, but you will have to work your butt off to get there.

Don't work at Cisco, they are slave drivers now. maybe you can get into a development program, but be prepared to move with them. no more stock market millionaires being made over there.

I knew that username looked familiar. You're right, Main is really weird. And it smells bad.
