Default Moving to Sumter

Hello everyone,

I'm moving to Shaw, AFB (Sumter) this August. It looks like the scene is pretty active in the Carolinas. How is the scene and activity in Sumter?

There really isn't much to do in Sumter, but you're pretty centrally located to Columbia/Florence/Charleston and only a short drive from almost anywhere else in the state. Are you going to be living on-base?

And I forgot to mention, there are a few of us here in Columbia and several more along the coast and in the upstate. Not to mention all the Charlotte folks. If you autocross, the SCR puts on some nice events, and there are always plenty of S2000's there.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I've been to Shaw/Sumter two summers ago, and there really wasn't much to do. Columbia was pretty cool, and I went out to some lake once to do some boating. I'm looking forward to taking trips to Myrtle Beach and cruising with the top down.

I'm just getting ready to graduate from the Air Force Academy, so I'm really excited about moving to a new place, doing some travelling, and meeting some great people. I also want to get involved in auto-X.

Slacker, I'm planning on living off base --four years at a military academy...I'm ready to live in civilian apartments!

If you're going to live off-base, you might want to consider living in Columbia and commuting. The drive isn't bad at all and it'll give you many more social/entertainment options.

Congrats on graduating, and don't hesitate to hit up the board if you need any more info about the area. There are lots of helpful folks on here.

I'm also in the AF and I just moved to Shaw last August after graduating from Arizona St. Sumter is pretty meh, I'd strongly consider living in Columbia if I were you. There are only two apartment complexes in Sumter that I would even consider moving into. That, and there is absolutely nothing to do there. I'm living in Columbia right now, and the drive isn't that bad... you get used to it (it's about 30-35 min).

Where are you gonna be working at?

Hit me up if you've got any questions about Shaw or anything like that...
