Default Need some rubber

Ok....

I was going to purchase new rubber for the S before going to WTD. Unfortunatly last week, bad timing along with no notification of withdraw reeked havoc on my bank account and I took some hard hits. Those hits drained every bit of tire money away from me. So now I am left in a bind. I cannot attend WTD unless I atleast get some rubber on the rears. If anyone has some stock 16'' tires collecting dust in the garage, let me know. They don't have to be new.. just good enough to make it through the Dragon and back.

Thanks guys.

I'm fixing to have two MX's pulled off of the rear that would be plenty good enough to get you by for a little while. My plan was to actually get them swapped out tonight. I know they're not S02's or S03's but they're pretty close.

Just so you know, one of them does have a slow leak that I can have checked out while they're pulling them... I'll PM you my cell number and you can call me if you're interested.

Mulder if you need to buy some cheap tires that offer almost the same amount of grip and traction as teh So2 look into the Fuzion Zr1 tires... I think I paid $150 for a set of 245s. From what I read up on them theyre nearly as good as the So2s. Hope this helps any.

I concur. I have Zri's on my rear wheels. I paid 76 bucks each from Jim at tire rack. After 10,000+ miles I am extremely happy with the performance and I no longer shit my pants when it rains. Treadwear is AMAZING.

I'll look into them as soon as I return. As long as I can make it there and back, i'm good. Garrett is helping me out (thanks alot!), atleast I can still make it. When I get back, new rubber all around!

I'm looking at ZRis too. Can't decide between them and Goodyear F1 GS-D3s. They both get good reviews, but the ZRi has its drawbacks.

I've been reading up on TireRack and in the Tire section here. The ZRis have softer sidewalls on the 16" rims that slow the steering response and make the steering feel heavy. Also, I've read mixed reviews on tread life, and traction in corners.

They sound like a harder compound than the SO2s that is less sure footed at the limit, but a good tire for the money none the less, and I'm debating dropping basically 60% of what I'd pay for Goodyear F1s on them. I also have 17" rims, so the sidewalls aren't such an issue.

Dre, did you have SO2s before the Fuzions? How much tread do you have left after 10k mi? Compared to breaking the tail out with stock rubber, how much sooner do the Fuzions break traction?

I had 50% let on the SO2's when I changed to pirelli sport SP5000's the Sp5000's "felt" better at the limit b/c they were more predictable. The part I hated about them were they got noisy when worn and in the rain with the pirelli's when worn was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Otherwise, an awesome tire in the dry.

The Fuzions have been AWESOME all-year. Slapped them on in October and went the whole winter with them on, which is over 10,000 miles. I can still feel a HUGE depth in the tread between ridges. I look at them when I wash the car and they still look like new tires due to the lack of wear.

Now granted, I don't peel out at 6K RPM, I DO bark through second gear. I punish the tires through curves. After the Asheboro meet, I was sure I lost a good 25% of my tire life, but lo and behold they are running strong.

I have felt a "slight" difference in sidewall feel. I definately admit that when I first put the Fuzions on, I thought I made a horrible mistake buying them. It took about 100 miles to break them in good. After that, they "crunched" more than the SO2's or the Pirelli's, if you know what I mean. It's like the feeling when the side "sits" down on one side, but it gave me a better feel as to when the car was gonna let loose.

I haven't autocrossed in these tires yet. I used to take fast corners in the SP5000's real hard and the rear tires would slide 'til tey gripped around U-turns and curves. The Fuzions tend to "skip" for a split second at first, which takes getting used to. After that first break, they grab harder than the SO2's or the Pirelli's did. Hell, after my encounter with the executive taxi downtown the other day, I am COMPLETELY sold on these tires' handling capability. I really do attribute my NOT hitting the taxi or lightpole about 50% due to the tires.

All in all, if you track a little, drive normal half the time, and like to take curves on a regular basis, it rains moderately, and you can't afford 800 bucks every 10K miles, the ZRi's are PHENOMENAL!

Also, the overall rating on tire rack is 7.6, with a 92% bettern than- category. Only 7 tires beat them in "ranking" and they all cost more. the best tire in class recieved a 8.0 where the zri got 7.6 VERY respectable. a set of 4 tires for the S2000 for under $350 installed? I'M SOLD!
