My next door neighbor owns Sector 111, the company the sells all the aftermarket go-fast stuff for Lotus. He had their company Elise shipped here to Charlotte and it arrived on the truck this am... the car is sick.... we are going out to play tomorrow morning... I can't wait...
He thinks he may be able to make a day or two when we're at the dragon this year...
...I can now die a happy man.... my son and I went driving with Ross and his Elise most of the morning.. we had our radios with us .... about a mile from home, he said, "Do you and Max want to switch cars?"... I responded, "...well, if you insist!"... What a blast... that thing is about as close to a street legal go-cart as anything I have ever driven. It sort of reminds me of the Beck 550 Spyder I used to have, only much more refined (obviously). It is very well balanced and predicable on a curvey road, just like the S, only different. You can tell, by how the car rotates, that the engine is behind your right elbow, instead of next to your right foot.. It just feels different. The car magazine articles that say that you "wear" this car are correct.
I have an intake, exhaust, Brembos and gears in my car. With "that" epuipment and given the weight differential, the cars excellerate and brake fairly equally.
On the "pro" side... the pictures don't do this car justice. This thing is just sick looking from every angle. When we pulled up to a light together, no one was looking at my car..people stopped dead in their tracks when they saw (heard) it coming.. The controls are very heavy in a parking lot, but once up to speed, the steering feed back, the drive train and brakes are amazing. The low weight is very noticable. After driving the Elise, getting back into my car felt like getting into a Lexus. The other great thing is the "sound." The exhaust note is awesome.. and it's right next to your head...
On the "con" side... my back is not the best and I could never live with this car. The seats are literally carbon fiber shells with a peice of cloth down the center.. the ride is stiff and your tush takes a beating. ... getting in is not so bad because gravity is on your side... getting out is challenging.. if I had this car, I'd have to always have someone ride ahead of me to help pull me out of the car when I got there... The "cool" mirrors on this car essentially worthlesss... the left mirror gives you a great view of the left rear fender, same on the right.. the rear mirror gives you a good view of the rear wing.. a couple of times I glanced up and thought the wing was the front air intake of my S... scarey. I have size 10 shoes and they don't fit in the wheel-well.. forget it if you have larger feet... If I tried to put my left foot on the "dead pedal," the right edge of my shoe was on the clutch...finally .. the gear throws are incredibly long...it makes no sense in a purpose built high performance car??? this car is crying out for a short shift kit...
At the end of the day... do you need a car like this...no....do you want a car like this ... absolutely...
To answer a couple of questions "above." The splitter and rear air/ground effects are aftermarket parts that his company sells... the rest are all carbon fiber body panel, mirrors, seat shell replacements, etc.... their marketing phrase is the Elise "diet."
He does "own" the car. His partner in California owned this car originally and he took it to events on the west coast to market their products. That guy bought an Elige and sold the Elise to Ross...
If he gets his way (with his wife who already is jealous of his car).. he will come Thurday and Friday of DBR and you guys can check out the car up close...
so he had no engine mods? those aftermarket exterior parts he has on there are real expensive for me. My elise is completely stock, and the little mods I want on it seem so expensive, like pieces of plastic to go on the outside to keep from getting rock chips and bottoming out.
the list of available stuff for an S is way more complete.
