Default prefered "local" tracks?

was wondering where people around here might take their rigs to get some track time. i was thinking about heading up to VIR in 08 to hit some twisties, but maybe i dont have to go that far. do you guys get together and head out to any tracks by chance? that would be sweet to be a part of.

s2ks are banned at VIR unless you are 5'5 and with the mugen lowering seat brackets.

CMP in kershaw, sc or roebling are the best bets.

You can add Rockingham, NC Motor Speedway to that list. NC Region of the SCCA plans on at least one PDX (Performance Driving Experience) there in 2008.

The track flows real well and driving the NASCAR Turn 1 banking is a blast. Per the latest SCCA rule change, factory roll hoops are approved so S2K's are approved even without the hardtop, although I run with mine.

That's the kind of good news I have been looking for.

Till now, my only choices were Summit Point or tracks too far away.

Summit Point Shenandoah circuit rocks! Of the three tracks I have been on, it is my favorite. CMP and Beaverun are also a lot of fun. I will have to try to make the Rockingham PDX, that looks like fun too.

There are a lot of autocross events in the Carolinas also. It's a great inexpensive way to experience some motorsports thrills.

i've snuck out on VIR several times to drive the full course at speed...

Exiting the VIR grid in Nov. 2005 (I've actually got a video of this run but down know how to upload it)

Playing in the rain at VIR Nov. 2006

Chasing down a Porsche on the front stretch at VIR...

Shhhh...

CMP at Kershaw is a blast too. There are probably pics of my car somewhere on the net doing hot laps...

And Roebling was repaved within a year or so, so the track is in great shape!

S2000's, among other convertables, don't satisfy VIR's insurance liability without an approved aftermarket rollbar installed...

Probably because it's such a complicated and high speed track.
