Default Soft top conversion for 01 to 02 top

Hi all,

Well, the wear spot on my 01 S2K soft top finally came through on the drivers side (behind my head), and now I have a small hole. I am now looking to do a soft top replacement, and I want to upgrade to the 02 (glass rear) top. I have read the forums here, and know that this has been done many a time. That said, the 2 local Honda dealers near me aren't interested in doing this, since they might have to deviate about from the normal scipt. Got a pretty funny response from one dealer who said it wouldn't work since the defrost connection wouldn't be right I'm willing to live with that.

Anyway, I was hoping that somebody local may have had this done already, and might be able to recommend a place to do the work.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,
Neil

Boy, do I have a story about this.....

Having a Honda dealer attempt to do this cost me a grand total of $2700, and was not successful. You can check this post out if you're up for a little leisurely reading.

Incidently, if anyone is looking for an '00-'01 OEM soft top, I've got a brand new one for sale.

I can recommend Auto Interior and Tops

http://autointeriorsandtops.com/

I had my top replaced under warranty 2 years ago due to a wear spot. Autopark Honda sent me to them to do the work.

Well just this month i found a wear spot in the same place. Warranty would no longer cover but the guys at Auto Interior and Tops patched both sides with new material to stop any more wear.

Wow Chris, that is quite the fiasco. I am feeling good about avoiding the dealership at this point.

RBackhouse - just wondering, did you go with an OEM honda top for the replacement, or with another top manufacturer? Seems GAHH is a pretty popular choice for non-OEM tops.

As Honda was paying for it I had no choice but to go with OEM. Hopefully I can keep my eye on any wear and get it patched before a new top is the only option.

I work at a body shop in the summer (my parents own one in Myrtle Beach) and i have done the conversion and it takes forever. The job pays 8 body time hours (36 dollars and hour) and you have to do alot of finagling to make it so that it isnt so noisy. I can do it for you for a pretty reasonable price if you supply the top, I just need a day to do it. PM if ur interested
