Took mine one step further since I did not want to mess with the E-brake wire so I just tapped mine into a switch which acts like the E-brake engagement.

So to move the softtop, just unlatch, hit the left switch and operate the top anytime I want

(right switch is secret so don't ask...haha)

what is that box near your right knee area?

After almost 15 years of ownership I finally did this. Couldn't de-pin that plug(annoyed me) so I just put a M/F connector on each end of my cut so if I ever want to put it back just click and go. In the mean time it won't hit anything as it's got a plastic surround to it.

Finally done it, Didn't need over summer as the roof was never up, but now autumn's here I've decided it's time.

However I've not been able to pull the pin out. Driver was small enough, but the wires are all taped together to about 1 - 1 1/2 inches from the plug, So just cut next to tape end and sealed.

Sorted. Reversing into parking spot at work while roof going up

Look on colleagues faces when they thought I was going to hit the window because I couldn't see at the roof went up

Coolness of doing it

And now it's raining.

The female end of the connector has 2 holes. The top square hole goes straight into the end of the exposed copper wire. The bottom rounded hole is the one we want.

Push the screwdriver in with the tip angled toward the square hole and the shaft resting in the rounded part. Press the screwdriver in until it stops. Pull the wire out. You should hear a clicking sound as soon as you touch the wire. Very minimal pulling force is needed.
Good info. Does rotation angle of the screwdriver matter? For example, do you want the flathead to be horizontal or vertical?

Got bent trying and just cut the wire and put M/F connectors on each end!

Good luck for those trying to de-pin. After 14 years this mod was far over due!!!!

Oh come on! You know there are some not so smart people out there that will do this. I would say you could try it with a top that's going to get replaced but you might damage your car or the softtop folding mechanisms.

I would say it's safe to say don't go more than 10MPH but really parking lot speeds only.
