Solstice GXP article
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but did GM buy the chasis from the Lotus Elise and modified it? Instead of mid engine rear wheel drive - its front engine front wheel drive? With one of those Eco shit motors? Dramatic loss in power and handling?? And they compare a naturally aspirated motor to force induction?? I've only heard rumors so somebody fill me in.
THANKS
THANKS
No, its a completly different chassis. The one you are speaking of it the one that underpins the Vauxhall Speedster. It IS an Elise.

The Solstice and Sky share a different platform. Yes, this is essentially the same ecotec although this is an evolution of that engine to now include VVT and a displacement increase of .2 liters.

[QUOTE=bmbjj,Apr 11 2006, 01:32 PM] My mental math is almost nonexistent at this point, but I believe 2.4 liters of engine producing 260 hp is not 130 hp per liter.
I love articles like this.
I love articles like this.
HP isn't everything. I've owned 3 miata's and they were all a blast to drive. Even the one with 115HP. Plus they are bullet proof. I actually wish my S2000 had the new Miata soft top. The manual top weighs less and it folds over itself so no boot cover is needed. In my book less mechanics = less stuff can break. Still I own an S2000 and love it
Maita = true roadster and S2000 = convertible sports car... IMHO. Still, Miata bashers generally have never driven one for any length of time.
Back to the topic. GM has a pretty neat car. I'll take n/a over turbo 10 out of 10 times and the n/a version they have just does not excite me. Plus the turbo is about on par with the S's n/a. The car does look neat. My neighbor has the Saturn version. For the record, she is in her late forties.
That being said clearly this guy is on the take and this is an inflammatory posting. I suspect it was listed simply to get us riled up
Just re-read that... not sure I added anything of value... thanks for reading

Whenever you have forced induction you're supposed to multiply the displacement by 1.3 when comparing one engine to another one that is normally aspirated. So, in effect their 2.4 liter is a 3.1 liter. Yamaha Motor Corporation was braggin about the R6 a couple a years ago; it produced 200 hp/liter.
