Default Storage question (new owner)

Hi,

I am a new owner (will take delivery later this week).
Since I don't have a garage (TownHome) I have been thinking about
getting a 10*20 storage unit and putting my baby there during the week.

Anyone has any suggestions / comments on this?

Does anyone know of a cheap and safe place (Public storage is $110/month
Jimmy's minis is $120)

Thanks in advance for you input,

Thanks for the link. Looks pretty cool

It is farilysafe (North Raleigh area - below avg break ins/year in the post code),
the most common break in time in this area is midday when there is no one around (bad time to
have a $30k car sitting all alone in the street). Another issue is space. We are
already using our alloted 2 parking spaces and extra parking is scarce
in our street (HOA is aways on people's cases about parking 3 cars, etc)

Also, It will be my toy car so it will be parked during the week. I can live
with washing the work car everyweek but I don't think I can live with
washing the s2000 every week if I don't drive it at all.

Although I do not live in your area, I can say the following.

After going through a lifestyle change I found myself renting again. I too did not have a garage and had to have one. I have rented a storage space for the past several years and it has been great. Now I'm looking for a house and hope to move soon, but the storage space worked great. Lockable and safe and dry.

If you do go with a rented space I would strongly suggest a few mousetraps with a dab of peanut butter. You never know and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Triple-H,

Thanks for the reply and the Pic!

I have been to a couple of storage places and checked out a 20*10 unit
but could not visualize the car in it.

It looks like you have a 20*10 and I works perfectly. I should be able
to store there some items that are starting to get in the way at the house
too..

I know you said you are not in my area, but how much do you pay for the space?
There is a Public Storage literally accross the street but North Raleigh is
more expensive for everything so I may be willing to extend my range if
the price is around or below the $100 mark.

cashout,

My space is not quite 10 x 20', but bigger than 10 x 15'.

I have my motorcycle back in the left corner, the bicycle in front of it, and all my tools, jack stands and spare parts in front of the S. I park right up against the right wall and have plenty of room to open the door to get in and out. And if you look real close, you can see the yellow plastic of the mousetraps on both sides of the door.

Word to the wise - if the garage has the ability to put two locks on the door, don't just put one. Twice I have had the neighborhood kids put a second lock on the door so I could not get in. When I was out buying the bolt cutters I picked up another lock and have never been locked out again.... silly kids!

Price? Sorry, forgot!

Keep in mind if I were to rent the space now I could not get it for this price. I have been in that space for more than 5 years and I know I'm getting a deal.

$75/month, includes electric, and I only run a light bulb, a radio and once in a while an electric drill, I try to be extremely fair on the electric used!

Now should I tell you the best part? It is two doors away from my apartment, so close in fact the portable phone from the apartment works down there.

Triple-H,

$75 wow!

I did some more looking around and found a place for $99 but
it is about 9 miles away. The good thing is that is close
to the dealership (1/2 mile)

I will be renting for three years (we are planning to buy a house
with a garage around that time) so $10-$20 a month will add up.

Thanks again for the picture. It definetely helped a lot.
