I mounted a set of 6 x 9's in the package tray to give my music more mid bass. The bass is not as deep as a subwoofer, but that wasn't what I was looking for in my car. I wanted louder and more clear so I could hear the music over my exhaust

That may be a first. I would like to see pics of this. I would thing 6x9s would be capable of reasonable bass mounted properly. Brand? Amp? Head unit?

i mean i dont want to be the obnoxious guy at the stop light thats making everyones car shake, i just want a lil thump when im listening to music. Ima definatley look into replacing all the oem's, but in my experiences in the past, if youve got a nice sub setup, your oem's dont necessarily need to be replaced.
The stock speakers wont be loud enough to convey vocals and 65mph and almost any speed topdown. you will have the thump of you sub, but not much else. I still really recommend the Kappas (the Perfects is you have the money) and a quality amp. The Infinity speaker cones are larger then most like size speakers and they tend to be able to handle as much as double the the RMS Power of you average Pioneer or Kenwood speaker. A speaker without a solid mounting point and a reasonable enclosure (Just look at the effort that goes into sub boxes) is not going to give 100% of the bass it has to offer. The door + dynamat is going give you more bass then twice the speakers poorly mounted elsewhere.

My recommendation is the Infinity Kappa 60.9cs with a 2 channel amp like the Alpine PDX-2.150 (powerful compact amp that only gets warm giving you better mounting options). That package could be obtained for about <$400 online and you would not lose valable space and gain more than a few unwanted pounds.

Sure thing. I did my system on a budget. I had a Hifonics ZXI6406 4 channel amp that I used in my 350Z along with a pair of a/d/s PX concept tweeters. I mounted these in the top of the seats to help out with top down noise that drowns out most of the music especially with the 6x9's covered up. The 6x9's are Boston Acoustics that I bought locally from a guy that did not install in his car. I personally am not a Boston Acoustics fan myself, but these sound very decent. My head unit is an Alpine IDA- X100. In the doors I used a Cadence CWM6 component set. Everyone that has heard my set up has so far been impressed with the clarity. It just doesn't have the low end bass that a system with a subwoofer does.

I took this picture while my friend pressed down on the top to make sure that I had the proper clearance between the top and the speaker grills. The top glass will not touch the speaker grills.

Ok so i have an 07....hate the sound system in there, reallyyyy need sub(s). I know JL audio makes a sub box that fits down in the tray of the trunk compartment but i really dont feel like paying $680 for it. Does anyone have a good setup with a regular small sub box or anything to that nature?
DO NOT put a subwoofer in the well - doesn't sound that great to begin with (had it in my previous 01 s2000) and if you ever get a flat, you have no place to put the damaged wheel/tire!

Ultimate space is to build a fiberglass enclosure like on my 05 Rio in the driver's side corner....however you will have to increase your budget a bit.

click on my double din thread below in my sig to get some ideas....

I wanted/needed to save my trunk space because I relocated my battery so I just did 4 JL door speakers. Theres not an absolute TON of bass but it hits pretty freaking good. Other guys in the past have fabbed up 2 separate boxes to go in the sides of the trunk for like a 10 on each side. Thought that was pretty ingenius
