Cheap S2000 Of The Week
Since I have been looking for S2000's, I have noticed that many people that are also looking don't really know the "going price" for the average 20,000 to 40,000 mile model year 2000 and 2001 S2000. Well, from now on when I see one going for a great price, I'll post it here. BUT,......I'm not quite ready to buy mine, and when I am ready in about 3 to 4 months, I'll stop posting because I don't want any of you to steal my good deal I find.
Enjoy!
I'll start with this Formula Red S2000 in Arizona. This is the second or third time I've seen it on ebay so the owner is probably ready to sell. The buy it now price is $23,900, but I'm guess he'll let it go for around $22,000.
Formula Red S2000
Here is a 2000 Silverstone with red interior. I think this is a very good price considering the low mileage. It has only 12,800 miles and the buy it now price is $24,500. I think you could get it for $23,500 to $24,000.
Silverstone S2000
This 2001 Spa Yellow S has been on ebay AT LEAST 7 to 8 times and not sold. The mileage is very low at 8,000 and it's being sold by a wholesaler. The big deal about being sold by a wholesaler is that they most likely got it for a very low price and they will be more willing to take a hit especially if it isn't selling. I think you could get it for less than $26,000.
Spa Yellow S2000
!!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!!!!
This car has been auctioned 3 times in the past week under three different names. I am positive it's a scam.
Scam S2000
I have been to see this car in person. It was auctioned about 4 times in March and April. It has lots of deep gouges on the bottom of the front bumper. It has several scratches in the body all around. Otherwise, it looked good to me. But the exterior to me would be rated as OK shape, not good, but not bad either. No dents or anything. It's a no reserve auction so it will go pretty close to what it is right now.
Spa Yellow S2000 in Dallas
This car has been on ebay about 4 or 5 times now. He started the first auction at like $28,000 and the car has 23,000 miles. Pretty stupid price, unless he just didn't want to sell it or he just wanted to give his money away to ebay for free. To say the least, he didn't recieve one bid. But now he has come to his senses and has it at a reasonable price. I think he will go lower though. It's at a buy it now price of $23,500. I think he will go as low as $22,000.
Silverstone S2000
That's it for right now. I'll scour the autotrader ads and see what I find. But I hate to say it, the best prices are usually on Ebay. But if you are smart, and you are serious about buying one you find, you could find someone on the forum that lives in that area and pay them like $50 to check it out for you.
Enjoy!

#1: Needs a new passenger front fender; has ~53k on it as of december, probably more now. IMO, not worth more than about $17,500
#3: Salvage title, sold I believe
#4: Been listed for months, priced too high for the mileage, IMO.
#5: Very good deal if owner is being truthful; no salvage, low(ish) mileage. Definitely worth checking out if its near you or you're willing to travel.
#8: sold very quickly; very good deal for the buyer.
#9: salvage title.

Hmmm,...that's a good question. I can give you a few things that aply to all cars.
1. Look closely at the seams of body panels. Make sure they aren't much closer together than the seams of the other body panels. This says that a panel or bumper was taken off and put back on for some reason. It could be no big deal, but always check to make sure.
2. Check alignment problems. This could also signal evidence of a wreck.
3. Check tire wear. If there is wear on one side of a tire only, this definetely signals suspension damage. BUT, it could just be preset camber, take it to a professional to make sure.
4. Check tha exhaust tips. If they are collecting an abnormal amount of soot buildup, this could signal that it is burning oil. If the car has any power mods, check closely for engine abuse. Not all, but many people who mod their cars to gain more power drive harder than others that don't mod their cars.
Feel free to add to the list.

Thanks!! Great tips!!
But, is there any S2000 specific things that people should be looking for when shopping for an used one?
Such as any noise I should be aware off while I'm driving the car?

- check for bondo. if you're not experienced with this, have someone who is with you.
- take the car to an independent mechanic that you trust. leave the car with the mechanic for a day to allow him/her to do a complete inspection. make sure the mechanic has experience with S2000s. a Honda technician is not necessarily an S2000 expert. some owners here know 100x more about an S2000 than some of the Honda service technicians these days.
- look at service records.
- you can usually tell if the engine or suspension has been touched as most critical bolts and nuts have tamper paint on them.
- look at the owner. that should tell you a lot about the way he/she treated the car.
