Actually it was Mercedes. The diesel engine is named after Rudolph Diesel, not sure if was the one who invented it though.
Feb 23 1893
Rudolf Diesel receives a German patent for the diesel engine.

$2.53 or so

Why does the news only report when gas prices go up but not when they go back down?

Oops, I didn't spell his name right. I guess Rudolph Diesel has a red nose and pulls Santa's sleigh. Probably with considerably more torque than regular Rudolph.

Premium here is $2.18 a gal at Chevron.

Have you ever been to the Indy 500, Daytona 500, 24Hours of Le Mans or a F1 race?

No, but I would love to. I have been to only two "professional" level events, both NASCAR races at Sears Point in Sonoma, CA. In fact my first NASCAR race, I saw D. Earnhardt get his first and only win at Sears Point. The second to the last lap, Dale was running second to Mark Martin. While going through the "carousel," Martin got loose and Earnhardt passed him. If Martin had not got loose, I don't think Earnhardt could pull it off because Martin pretty much dominated the race. My mom and I were sittnig right across from the carousel when it happened and saw it all. I remember getting up and cheering as loud as I could. I will never forget that moment.

How about you, what professional level race events have you attended?

I have been to numerous IMSA Sports car races, SCCA and NASA Sports car events, I have been to about 5-6 Toyota Atlantic races around the Country, SCCA Trans Am, I have been to numerous CART Indy car races around the Country, I have seen Indy Lights competition and I saw Mario Andretti's last CART race at Laguna Seca in 1994.

Mario Qualified 12th at Laguna in 1994. He got hit from behind on the very first lap resulting in a flat rear tire. After falling to the back of the pack, he worked his way into 6th place. With 2 laps to go, his timing chain broke

I would love to go to Daytona to watch the 24 Hours of Daytona.
