You'll have a PM coming your way soon Charlie

I don't have a clue where to start
It starts from a few directions, James.

1. You need to make a decision about what kind of wireless you want to run in your house. Probably 802.11G, which runs up to 54Mbit/sec. However, 802.11B is really, really cheap now, and runs at 11Mbit/sec, and has better range.

2. You need to decide how you're going to connect to the net. I don't know what your options are in HK, but here in the US you can either use your coaxial cable (from your cable TV company), or you can use your phone line (DSL). That will determine the actual type of "modem" you need to buy or rent in order to connect.

3. You want to find a central location to place the wireless "access point." That's the thing that will actually convert the ethernet cable coming from your modem into a wireless network. I've been OK having the WAP in my basement, but we're spreading out our equipment a bit (out to the pool house), so I think I need to relocate it.

4. You should shop around cable/phone companies to get the best deal you can. Here where I live, the cable company has a monopoly, but DSL isn't. Still, I've been very happy with the service and quality of my cable service.

Holler when you need, James.

Actually, last I'd heard, Microsoft had significant ownership of Apple. I wonder if that's still true. Microsoft has definitely won, but Apple still has a great (if expensive) product line.

Apparently Chaz,

all the Linksys stuff runs in mixed mode now and just about everything is avail in .11g for fairly cheap. There are essentially two chip sets for .11g now and the earlier one is pretty cheap.

Sometimes gettin' that wireless stuff to work is just vodoo.
