I'm considering a Mini Cooper S (among others). What are it's relative merits/demerits?

Considering you're more informed about autos than I, I find it odd you'd ask me. Assuming we're talking about a new Mini:

Plus: It's a BMW
Minus: It's a BMW

Plus: It's small
Minus: It's small

Minus: It's a bit of a porker given it's size.
Plus: There's enough torque to still make it livable

Plus: You can option the sucker out to near-luxury car status
Minus: You can tape the sucker out to luxury car prices

Plus: Still fashionable
Minus: It's not as cute as a Miata.

Yeah...I'm just looking for perspectives. My car interests are so scattered that I'm mining for thoughts...and yours seemed as useful as...well...maybe...ummm...well...I just felt like asking...

I'm NOT looking for luxury. I'm looking at utility, fun, economy, relative comfort (how each option compares to it's peers, not necessarily each other).

What are your thoughts on the original Mini (other than the fact that a decent one is stupid expensive)?

Have you looked at the interior or spent much time in a mini?

A bit. It's a tad cluttered to me...but relatively comfortable...

To give an idea of how broad my list of interests is, here are some of the thoughts I've had (irrespective of price...to a point):

Mini Cooper S
Mazdaspeed3 (previous generation...don't like the new ones)
Honda Fit (either generation)
Audi A3 TDI
Jeep Wrangler TJ (or the Unlimited version of that body)
Lotus Elise/Exige
BMW E39 M5 (we'd talked about this one at Tacos)
WRX Wagon
Boxter S

I'm all over the roadmap. Still several months away from a purchase...

Unkie T, I didn't realize I needed trig to get in to pre-calc. So. I can't get in to Santa Clara for Fall '11 because I just don't have enough semesters to complete all of trig, pre calc, and calc A+B. So... no SCU.

I can still apply for Berkeley, but the counselor told me she had a student she was advising who had a 3.9, work experience (for undergrad), AND a letter of recommendation from a previous Haas graduate, and STILL didn't get in.. so I'm starting to lose hope... but will still apply.

So am I stuck with SJSU again? I feel like I could potentially do much better than SJSU, but it's my only other option as a good business school. I want to place myself in the best undergrad program I can, to set myself up for an even better graduate program, but fear it just won't happen for me.

What other schools should I consider?

My ex-boss owned a Minor for years. He said the biggest plus was that you could repair it pretty easily. . . barring the pain of having to find British parts (which, given the interwebs, is easier).
