Well the thing is.. I have about 100ft of cable.. but the distance to go from my router in the living room.. up to the cieling (my parents hate having cords on the ground) all the way to my room is the length of the house

So.. I'd need like 200ish feet of cable.. and I don't wanna spend $60 on it, because I just spend $40 on a wireless card that's USELESS because I ping.

I was thinking about just cutting the cat5 open and splicing together.. well.. having my dad do it, but same thing. I've ripped apart a 10-wire cable for an ipod connector and he put it all back together perfectly

So you say I can't get a female/female connector? I dunno what a dropped packet is.

But yeah, if you don't want the cable, I'll take it!
pretty sure a cheap switch will act as a signal booster and solve your problem at the same time. or two+, depending on how many cables you want to run together.

OHHH okay, so I take like.. a 50' cable from the router, halfway down my house, then plug the one from the router, to the one in the switchbox. Then I go from the switchbox, to my computer, correct? So in effect, it IS a female-female, it just has "extra" females?

BACK ON TOPIC

UnkieT,

Whats the word on the violinist?
Busy, but still interested.

I've got it covered.

Back to the previous topic: I forgot about mentioning the Cat5 spec is limited to 100m (meters!!!), but frankly, after 75m, things get kinda shithouse.

And, as raymo said, splicing is stupid. If you have to get a coupler, get a coupler.
