changing strings, adjusting truss rod, adjusting action... these things, while i'm not a professional, i can do fairly well.
is there anything else from a maintenance perspective that i should be doing for my ol' squire?

Seriously though, remember to pencil the nut (heh heh m heh), clean the neck, and then, if you're feeling adventurous, checking the wiring.

You need to get a little graphite into the divots in the nut before you re-string it.
