Will a head of Iceberg Lettuce stay fresh longer with the core remaining in or with it removed?

Yes. However, the real gremlins that zing your lettuce are:
1.) getting rid of any rotten leaves before storing in the fridge
2.) making sure the head (of lettuce*) is kept in the crisper bin in said fridge.
3.) wrapping in a paper towel before storage
4.) Wash ONLY when ready to eat, do NOT wash prior to storage, this messes the moisture up

*Store your human heads in the freezer, as recommended by Walt Disney (allegedly)

this one is wrapped in plastic which I washed so I'll pull that off & do the Paper Towel dealio, I always use the veggie drawer just used to core it and wondered if that was making it brown sooner

Well, try and avoid the pre-storage wash next time, but I suspect you'll still have some tasty leaves regardless.

Nope. It's either Eddie Mercx or Peter Sagan. Given the respective diets of their respective epochs, I'll give it to Mercx. That, and Mercx is a surly SOB who has no time for the young 'uns.

I'll also consider arguments for Fangio, given the age margins.

I’d go for AJ Foyt over Fangio. 4 Indy 500 wins, Le Mans and Daytona and Sebring wins and over 200 other wins.
