Default Attn: Alex!

I have a new project I will be working(besides the NSX) on this summer. I thought you might be interested. Well basically, it is the American Muscle vs. Rice Burning Imports battle with a twist. My friend recently wrecked is 1986 Camaro with a 305. The motor is still running, but the frame is bent, so he will not be fixing it. His idea was to throw his motor into a golf cart. He wasn't serious at first, so I was going to do it, but with a cheap Honda D16Y8 motor...well he took that with offense, so now the battle is on! He is putting his 305 in a golf cart, and me a D16 in the same. The rules concerning money will be a big issue. He has none, so he thinks I should be able to spend none even though I have no motor, golf cart, or axles or anything. Anyway, I think the budget will be $1500 without motor. Also, we cannot take it to a shop and have them do it, it has to be our own work. That's fine by me, but I need more $$$ to make a 120HP compete to his 155HP heavier, but much torquier motor. Anyway, I'll keep you updated on the progress.

That's it?

Hahaha, j/k - sounds like a project! Though I wouldn't be caught dead with a Chevy 305, if that's all you got to work with...

BTW, My LS6 and T56 are already here, my Lingenfelter intake and headers are also in, and I'm waiting for my guy to get me the C4 IRS. Once I have all the stuff, I can bring the car and goodies to the shop to get it started. I'll probably start pulling out the F20C sometime next week.

I'm not sure if I'm going to sell the engine/tranny/ECU/IRS to a friend, or if I'll put it on my Baby Grand. Probably the latter. With only a Yamaha 1200, and at 1300lbs, it could use a little extra grunt. It only laps about 10sec faster than my S2000.

I just recently got my '69 Camaro running (Saturday), and finally broke it in yesterday. Yes, it sounded just as awesome as I had expected, allt he way from its 1500rpm idle to 9000rpm redline. On cold starts, it sounds like a hammer drill as the rockers crash onto the valves (I've got a lot of lash, see), but from there, it just sounds so glorious to 9000rpm. Plus, it gets to redline noticeably quicker than my S2000. It doesn't feel like 500whp but I'll be dynoing either tomorrow or Friday at school, so we'll see.

Also, on Sunday I drove to College Station to try to fix my truck. After installing head gaskets and a front tranny seal in record time (about 6hrs total), we spent another 2hrs trying to get the oil filter off... We never got it off. Kinda pathetic, eh? so, I never got it started. I'm probably going back this weekend to try to finish it up. If I can't get the oil filter off, I'm just gonna pull out the motor and drop in another, out of an '85 Burban.

Keep me posted on the kart. If you're using a normal shifter kart frame, good luck... It's too flimsy to accommodate a FWD transaxle and CV joints. You'll need to custom fab some subframes and suspension. I'm assuming this will be mid-engine, RWD? That would be the easiest way, instead of getting your steering and suspension travel angles correct on the CV joints. Also, I'm willing to bet that the kart would be much, much quicker with a CR250R 4-stroke...

Our golf kart has a Ford inline-4 pulled from that tractor. I put in a 1600 crank which brought us to 1473cc, high compression pistons (about 10:1), and new bearings and rings. We ported and polished the heads, and gasket matched it to our aluminum intake. We have a turbo from a Volvo 850 Turbo that we're currently trying to retrofit. (If it doesn't work, we're putting it on my built Honda 400EX with a big bore kit - 426cc.) It already has a 50shot plate NOS system with a 18lb bottle so it's pretty quick.

Also, a 5-speed from a Fiesta. Full-size wheels/tires from a Dodge Raider, front suspension from an '85 RWD Corolla.

I'm not working with the Chevy 305, my friend is. I'm the one going with HONDA POWER!!! Completely opposite of your project. How is the LS6 motor going to fit?

It'll fit. May take a little motivation, but it will fit, so help me God!

You know, I may actually choice a Chevy 305 over a Honda D16Y8...

Ok, a stock 305 or a modified D16? The D16 is lighter too.
