I really despise Creative. On my list of computer companies to hate, Creative is far and away #1. Their business practices, to me, make Apple and M$ look like pretty decent companies. Creative has a long history of suing smaller innovative companies out of business when those innovations threaten Creative's monopolies, Aureal being a noted example. They also like to file grandiose patents and sue later for usage fees after a product has established a foothold, as Apple is finding out.

I must plead ignorant (please accept my plea) I am not real familiar with them as a company.

That's because they've always managed to keep competition (and therefore better products) at bay by legislation.

I didn't know that about them.

Their mp3 player (disk drive model) has some real advantages over the ipod though... not least of which is price.

Low price is their strong suit. Of course, when part of your business is subsidizing product revenue with legislative revenue, it should be.
