I'm gonna get into this shifter kart racing...
Moran Raceway is in Beaumont which is real close to here.... I go to Beaumont practically every weekend...
They even had something about that track in the recent C&D.

colin, nice to have you back! anyway, i recommend NOT starting with shifter karts. they're too damn fast. (it's kinda like getting a Gixxer 750 or R1 as your first bike.) start with like a 5hp or 8hp B/S kart. they're good for at least 60mph (if the track allows), but you'll never know you're only going 35mph... especially on an indoor track.
