I think it's more cultural than it is insecurity... young girls are "taught" that the guy should ask her out, not the other way. Though once a relationship is established, I don't know why there would be a barrier.

Why, J? I know a lot of women who flat out refuse to make a first move... if you look at culture - movies, television, etc - the guy is almost always the one asking. It's just like the "perfect wedding" fantasy that most women seem to have.
umm... yea south of mason dixon.... its all bout the guy asking the girl... just that southern gentlemen hospitality garbage that hurts me cuz I'm so frackin shy and gutless I never hardly get to show the hospitality side.. I always end up showing the nervous wreck
