Smile Bloody Apple !

I bought Lesley an iPod (40gb) for Christmas 2003. February 2005 (only 14 months later) it has given up! She had a friend take it in to the Apple Store in Hong Kong to see if they could do anything and after 3 attempts to reset it, said that there was nothing they could do !! Her friend then said "Do you have any advice what I can do then." they said "You need to be buy a new one."

This is a piece of consumer goods that cost almost US$500 and it gives up after 14 months!!! And all they can suggest is "buy a new one"

I have never, in my life, paid for that much money for consumer goods that have only lasted 14 months

I'm mad mad mad mad about this

Is it the battery that failed? I've read the batteries on those things don't last very long for some reason.

One and a half months out of warranty, but that makes no difference to them ... outside warranty is outside warranty

Maybe repair is less expensive than replacement?

sucks to hear that I know you can replace the hard drives for a lot less than a new unit costs, and apple care is very worth it (which of no help to you now )

Have you looked at the Apple forums? Someone might have something to say that could help.
